And what do we have to do before arriving? Does the entire ski have to be 100% dry?

yes, make sure it is dry. no standing water or sand. when i need an inspection i stuff rags all in the bilge to take care of that water hiding under the waterbox and such.

            Anthony,
I have heard about that inspection. If they find one drop of water, or if after starting the engine water comes out, they will send you packing back home. For real. So I assume if we ride every weekend then make sure you start the ski everyday and push left over water out of the exhaust. After a couple of days it should be pretty dry in there, and also dry the entire bilge with rags like Chriselmore_1 said

            OK, sorry for the threadjack!

were pretty cool with most of the inspecters so they are not always that strict with us. as much of a burden as it is we gotta protect our local waterways. i have a spare steering nozzle i swap out if i ride pismo or somewhere. i just make sure i clean and flush the hell out of my ski before coming back to a local lake. the inspection only takes 5 mins tops! just make sure you bring a copy of your reg.
now back to your previously scheduled program...

Well, it went. Made it to the cove, got on tv and got rolled on by the bay police after about 10 min. Apparently there's a ban on pwc operation anywhere within 1000 feet from the shore of San Francisco. Maybe if you went on a couch and anchored or somethin but I'll bet they would be on you pretty quick. I wonder what they would say about an old Kawi super chicken, that's kinda like a boat

is there something in writing or a specific code violation? Did you get cited, or warned?

                      Re: mccovey cove

We got warned and told to leave. Then they followed us to deep water and all the way around north point. There's city code that prohibits operation unless your going in or out of launching, in which case you must be at no wake/5 mph until you get 1000 feet from shore. Beaches are off limits too, Chrissy beach, baker beach...all no good. Can't forget you have to stay 200 feet from Alcatraz too so going by pier 39 leaves you about a 20ft channel to ride thru safely.

Been out there a few times and everytime I got rolled on by bay police or the coast guard. Even on the other side of treasure island and the mouth of the estuary. It's really not worth it IMO.

There are a few things you can guarantee. 1. Being the center of attention in mccovey cove 2. You will get on tv 3. The fuzz will be on you in 10 min which will force you to deep water and you'll get worked/over it, go home and miss most of the game

                        Re: mccovey cove

hmmm..i just wanted to launch from pier 52 cruise over to the cove and drop anchor and post...perhaps swim and wallow in that filthy water. I actually left a message with the sfpd marine unit to call me back to get some first hand info (fyi their number is 415-409-1020)...still waiting on a callback.

might be worth it to take the skis there and make face, only to get escorted out with a warning...and I don't plan on acting wild at all on the skis, im too old for that lol

                        we'll see what happens...thanks thrasher925

got an email from sgt laval of the sfpd marine unit, any pwc within 1200 ft of the san Francisco waterfront will be cited for 4700.3 of the municipal police code.

                            there you have it.
