How close should I have the impeller to the wear ring? Ive heard anything more than 10thousands/inch is too far away

As close as you can get it without touching. About the thickness of a playing card.

Many manuals say 2 or 3MM is perfect and 6MM is too much, service limit, time to rebuild. For those of us who refuse to embrace that MM bullshyt that means 8 to 10 thou is perfect while 25 thou is the limit.

1mm is pretty much bang on 40 thou. So 2mm=80''' and 3mm=120'''. Think you missed out zeros donwkk?

That would be an absolutely huge clearance, way more than the max you'd want to run. The closer you can get it the better the pump will perform
Sometimes the same is different, but mostly it's the same

You are correct - I should have typed 0.2 to 0.4MM as factory spec and 0.6MM service limit. That equates to the 8 to 10 thou and 25 thou limit.
