Marvel Mystery oil added to gas.
Has anyone ever added Marvel Mystery oil to their gas/oil mix.
How much do you use per gallon?

Re: Marvel Mystery oil added to gas.
Why? Whats your goal you wish to obtain by adding it?
I know some people swear by that stuff...however I have heard its just a gimmick. What people don't realize is that when you go putting additives in your fuel, you are taking up space that is usually used by fuel...therefore making your fuel ratio lower which makes your ski run a bit leaner. Running lean= Detonation. Granted my example may be a bit exaggerated, its still a fact.

I always use it. It is great for trying to keep the inside of your motor cleaner. It says to mix 2oz per 10 gal but I usally double that.

How does it keep it cleaner?
It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am not a big man.

Exactly what I was wondering. Im not saying the stuff is junk...but from everything I have heard from people that knew that they were talking about..its not worth it.
Its not like 2 strokes have a ton of build up on them...I would be more worried about running good oil and gas..that way you don't have stuff get gummed up.

Yeah...little lost with this..lol..
MMO has its uses..but I have never heard of using it in a 2 stroke..
I have freed siezed and rusted engines/lifters with it before..but they were all 4 strokers..
Not saying it will hurt..but I dont know what it may help..

Re: Marvel Mystery oil added to gas.
it's got to be some type of detergent imho. it says to add it to crankcase oils, replacing an entire quart in a 5 quart system with it, add it to gas, diesel.................im pretty sure its a detergent of some sort. smells wintergreenish like ben*** to me. i've used it in all kinds of stuff but never long term to see any results. i had an ex racer say he use to stabilize fuel in the off season with it...............?
there is a chemical engineer next to my shop and i asked him about it and he says its mostly karosene. said he can request an msd for it and have it made up.

if your plan is to clean up the inside of your motor from the carbon and such go to your local airport and get a few galons of 100LL and burn that

Re: Marvel Mystery oil added to gas.
I also would strongly suggest not using Marvel Mystery Oil in any two stroke engine.
Our two stroke engines rely on two stroke oil for lubrication. It's atomized with the gasoline to lubricate, and adding another ingredient like Marvel upsets the recipe. In effect, Marvel may well lubricate, but may reduce the lubrication abilities of the regular two stroke oil in the process.
I suggest what I always suggest - select a good oil - AND STAY WITH IT - and use the best gasoline you can find and always use the same oil to gas ratio.
Count me in the camp of leaving the Marvel Mystery Oil on the shelf. Use it in your air compressor, not in your ski.
One other item - two stroke engines stay very clean provided you keep water out of them.

Re: Marvel Mystery oil added to gas.
MMO holds a special spot on my shelf. I have used it 1 time, when I started a fresh top end. I didn't want anything to stick ( like rings ). squirted it right down in the plug holes. It does change the viscosity. It is a detergent additive. I don't use it . I would rather add another 1 of my old time favorites like " Sea Foam " and I do from time to time run it in all my machines. I have 2 cans of that on the shelf. You can even fog the motors with it.
