Has anybody used compressed air to blow out the water through the flush valve once the engine is flushed and shut down for good, ? I get about 120 psi out of my shop air and was wondering if used in short bursts, will it damage any internal parts?.
Silly question but where is the oil filter on the vx? I can't seem to locate it. Ive fogged my snowmobile before and sprayed the oil in the intake when the engine is running and it will kill once the oil is in. I can see a problem doing this on a ski as you need to have it hooked up to the hose.
Oil filter is down on the L/H side of motor....when sitting on the ski......slightly towards the back.
Bulldogs says it all about fogging in step 6......
6- remove the hose that goes from the air filter box to the engine at the engine side. now spray the Yamaha engine fogging oil into it for 5 seconds, then start engine for 10 seconds at idle only. shut off, re-connect engine hose.
Spray the fogging oil in with the motor off, once air filter box hose is reatached, run for 10 secs at idle with no cooling water.
Remember these are 4 strokes with plenty of oil in them to stop corrosion......unlike a two stroke. The main purpose of fogging here is to protect the top end.......valve stems etc.
anti freeze is absolutely not required in a vx, you will also note that no where in the manual or specs does it say to add it. however, with some, old habits die hard and they do it and i respect there thought and reasons. if it makes you feel better, then go for it, but its a waste...
check out the manual
tells you about/ oil/filter/spraying inside compartment, plugs, grease points, torque specs, i mean everything, but leaves out a major mainteance issue??? anti freeze??? not required is why!
You know, its not required to wax and polish my ski every 2 weeks, or change my oil every 30 hours (yamaha says 100 hours or start of season,), and some would say that is over kill, not needed, there right... but it makes me feel better and the skis look new after 260 hours still. so its not needed, but if it makes you feel good, that is what matters.
Great posts guys. The only thing I'd like to add here is trailer tires which I'm kind of anal about. After all what good is your ski if you cant get it to the water? In my case up here in the northeast my trailer could be sitting outside for 6 months without moving. So I take the tires off at the end of the season and put it up on blocks. This helps keep the them from drying out, getting flat spots and dying a premature death. It also makes it harder to steal the ski. The tires get doused with 303 protectant and get stored in my basement. Before they go back on in the spring, I check inner and outer sidewalls for any cracks, a sure sign of an upcoming blowout. [No better way to ruin your day] check inflation, anti seize the lug bolts and torque the lug nuts to specs and juice the wheel bearings. Now I dont have to worry about tires for the rest of the season.
Oh yeah one last thing. Each tire takes turns being the spare. A road tire this season will be the spare next season. Keeps the spare from dry rotting
i just spray into teh end myself and then fire the engine the second im done, it draws it all in. like volltrex said. he has no issues with fouled plugs and i have not either, but i do know of a person or two who has. but then again, who knows how they fogged or what they did either. but properly its not likely gonna foul them. as to the anit freeze, if it makes you feel good, by all means do it, i change my oil every 30 hours, and oil filter every other change, while yamaha says 100 hours, i have done it 3 times in that 100 hours. so its what makes you feel better :O)
bulldogs 101 - looking for an oil filter wrench to fit the filter for an '05 fx - any suggestions. have taken new filter to autoparts - but no luck so far. didn't like the way they fit. what size mm wrench do you use.

Hi pbrstreet: your right, i had actually have made a correctd copy of my original post, and incuded some on trailer, tires, bunks, just never posted it since the one was newly posted.. I agree with you and will add some of your text to it as its better than what i added...lol... great points.... and often over looked by so many, and yes a trailer issue can make a very bad day.... good post!
I'm not where i can check my cup wrench, im almost positive its a 65mm, most likely you can only buy from a auto store a 65/67 combo. which works, if its on super tight, then a strap wrench is a must...mine come off with a cup easy, however several months back when i let the dealer do a change as he owed it to me, ( major mistake)...lol..do it yourself) they put it on so tight that i had to use a strap wrench, teh cup would not work...
