    Faq ~ please read

OK new folks, here are the answers to all the questions that you might have. Before you even think of posting a question, please look through this post.

    Service Manuals
A limited selection of this material is online. If someone would PLEASE get some service manuals for more model years, I would be more than happy to post them here for the world. I believe the below manuals are for 2002 or 03 models, but I'm not positive.

    Service Manual

    OIL
Use any brand of 10w40 but do not use an "ENERGY CONSERVING OIL". Use motorcycle oils, marine oils, or diesel oils (put in just over 4 qts, more should be pumped out). It is recommended that you change the oil every season or every 50 hours. Personal preference reigns supreme in this section. Too much oil will cause problems. Check below for more info or do a search of the forums.

    CODES
Here is how you pull the codes...

    1. Ride the ski until it throws the code.

    2. Push the mode for 2 or more seconds to make it quit beeping.

    3. Then push the mode and set buttons at the same time for 5 or more seconds and it will start blinking out the codes.

Make sure not to turn off the ski during this process or you might not get your codes.

and here is where you can check the code meaning...

    turbo special work

    from Hambone:

Re: My turbo's exhaust wheel is shot
I would highly recommend a turbo shop assemble and balance your spindle shaft and new compressor wheel combination. Micrograms of out of balance will kill it quickly. The vibrations will shear the spindle off by the machined groove very soon. Check your local turbo guys and they will know who can balance your unit.

My guy is John over at Majestic Turbo in Waco, Texas. Kevin and John have done wonders for my stuff and are one of the only turbo shops in the country that will do exotic and experimental turbo work. 800-231-5566. They can usually have a two or three day turn around.

    Hambone.

If you are going into an intermittent "limp mode" and seeing the thermometer symbol on the Dash flash, consider getting a new one way valve. Honda has made an improved valve that has larger ports for more cooling water [it is a 15 minute install]. If that does not do it, remove the sub air box and replace the ECT and OTS sensors [they are cheap]. To get the velocity stacks off without stripping the heads on the Phillips screws, use a hand-held manual impact driver that you hit with a hammer [they are cheap].
The knock sensor is also accessible at this time too [more costly]. You can also decide if you want to shorten your velocity stacks before you put them back on for a performance boost.

If your ski is stumbling at higher RPM for no apparent reason, or you are finding water inside the hull, take a ride without the seats or the tool box tray. Go as fast as you can and then dump the throttle. Look down inside the engine bay while it is slowing down quickly and see if water is spraying from the shaft seal. The seal's aluminum housing corrodes under the rubber coating which peels up and allows the high pressure water being shoved into the pump grate [during rapid decel] to spray into the back of the engine bay. For salt riders, this is a corrosion-nuke to the rear of the engine/turbo. New shaft seals can be found on Ebay that have not been used in salt.

If your waste gate actuator is rusted out, Ramon/Aurice [ turboski225@aol.com ] Have replacements that they have coated with a super-tough corrosion-resist for a great price. They need to be adjusted by turning the shaft in [CW] 50 times [increasing the "crack pressure"] and then adjusting the length of the shaft so it has to be stretched 1/8" before the pin will fit into the arm's hole. This is a little hard, but it makes sure the waste gate has spring pressure holding it closed when "at rest". To get the little circlip off the actuator pin, use a tiny flat screwdriver to spear the hollows of the circlip and then pry it off. You can't see the circlip, so you have to "feel" the circlip's hollows with the tiny screwdriver. Don't worry if you bend it, you can flatten it before you put it back on. Put the hose on the actuator before you reinstall the exhaust elbow.

    Re: Faq ~ please read

If your pump locks up and your impeller is dragging against the sides of the stainless steel wear ring, your pump stator is shot and HAS to be replaced.

The salt gets between the aluminum pump stator and the stainless wear ring and corrodes it. The expansion of the aluminum oxide forms a bubble with such force it pushes the ring into the impeller.

Unless you can find a used "freshwater-only stator", buy a new one from Honda of East Toledo or anyone else with a decent price. You will have to transfer the bearings and seals to the new stator housing and it might be a good time for a Solas impeller upgrade [ParkerYamaha.com].

Do not get this problem confused with the normal "jingling" sound of the necessary slack in the male/female splines of the pump drive shaft [which hurts nothing].
