best oil for honda aquatrax f12x?
hey ppl, i have about 63 hrs on my turbo, and i just changed the oil and filter at 50 hrs. I did change the oil at 25 before, but not the filter. I used the regular valvoline 10w40 for my oil. does anyone know if this is the best oil to use for the turbo? Would a synthetic oil be any better?
another ? i have is are they going to make a k&n air filter for this ski?

Well, 4-fun and I talked about this recently and I still do not totally agree with him but hey it's america right we all have opinions.
I follow what the owner's manual says on page 121. Below I pulled some of our posts. Here's the link to the thread: http://forums.pwctoday.com/viewtopic.php?t=3046
I wrote: "Now, Turbo is right be careful going to a synthetic oil to soon. You should let the engine break in just like on any four stroke motorcycle engine. The specified viscosity is 10w/40 or other viscosity shown on a chart on page 121 of the owner's manual. Now, be careful using AUTOMOTIVE oils as some have additive that can be bad for your watercraft like: DO NOT USE non-detergent, vegetable, castor based racing oils, or API SH or higher oils as energy conserving on the API service label. Basically if you are not sure go to any Honda Motorcycle or Honda Watercraft dealer and get the Honda Oil.
Last, Oil Filter; the oil filter used in the watercraft is also used on several motorcycles so again for those who are out of state you can get this filter at other Honda Motorcycle dealers. The part number is 15410-MCJ-000. Now, we always have our Honda Oil Filters on sale and the oil filter for the Honda Watercraft we sell for $9.95."
Now my self I use a Motorcycle type oil either Golden Spectro or Honda both of them make regular oil and synthetic blends. Now 4-fun likes AMSOIL bought there is some descision about whether it is good for motocycles and the Honda watercraft.

any other brands of oil besides the honda?

I've also used Gold Spectro Oil (all types) and I have some customers who use Castrol Actevo Motorcycle Oil 10/40, Silkolene Motorcycle Oil 10/40, and Mobil 4T Motorcycle Oil (Mobil 4T oil is a synthetic). 4 fun uses Amsoil, however like I said there's been some discusion about whether using Amsoil is good for 4-stroke motorcycle or a 4-stroke watercraft. What I would suggest to use a MOTORCYCLE TYPE Oil that is 10w/40 regular oil (no synthetic until the boat has about 25 to 50 hours on it) and a brand you like or one you feel comfortable with.
Oh, if you do decide to use the Honda oil you DO NOT HAVE TO GET THE OIL FROM A HONDA WATERCRAFT DEALER. You can get the Honda GN4 and HP4 (Synthetic Blend) at any Honda Watercraft and Honda Motorcycle Dealer. So you should be able to get the oil locally. If you are not near a Honda dealer several motorcycle shops should carry some motorcycle oil that is compatable with your Honda watercraft just look on pg 121 in your owners manual. Last, DO NOT USE AUTOMOTIVE oil or oil additives like: Slick 50, Duralube, ZMax, etc...
I hope this helps... If you are still having problems you can call me at work tomorrow from 8:00am EST to 4:00pm EST at 941-365-3443 and I will be glad to help you.

my Turbo was making a lot of noise after 4 hrs and I ran it like that to 48 hrs. Honda said try Castrol syntec 20-50 now it makes a lot less noise

I have changed my oil several times now in my Honda and now that it has reached aprox 40 hrs, I have chosen to go with Mobil 1 15W-50 synthetic. This oil meets the owners manual requirements and is NOT an "energy conserving" type of oil.
I have used Mobil 1 in my Vettes for years and have never had any type of oil related problems ever!! Being that it is a fully synthetic oil, this should provide superior lubrication under all operating conditions.
BTW, here is a very interesting link to an article comparing the "motorcycle" oils vs automotive type oils.
