    Re: Propane powered ski ?

Mechancial fuel injection was used on some 57 chevy's with the 283 motor. So yes it has been around for 50 years.

A lot different today with pc's controlling everything.

Propane and boats are a bad idea, as leaking propane is heaver then air and would sink and pool in the bilge, then Powder Keg KaBoom. Gas fumes rise, so it is safer.

    Re: Propane powered ski ?

Thats why I/O boats ALL have a blower to vent fumes whether they be gas fumes or LPG it would still be the same. They ALL have vents on the side to continually provide fresh air to the engine compartment. So it really is the same as a gas motor in terms of safety.
You run the blower a few minutes before you crank it up. Same as they have been doing
on I/O boats for over 30 years.

    Re: Propane powered ski ?

I drove a Schwans truck when I worked for them that was propane powered. In fact all their trucks run on propane. You take a pretty hard hit in the horsepower department due to the lower energy storage. You are also going to have a hard time fitting enough storage room for propane. My truck had about 7 times the size of a normal gas tank for the same range. Conversion is pretty cheap, but once again your range is going to suck because all you'll probably be able to fit is a fork lift tank. I'm not 100% sure, but I think we ran our tanks at a lot higher pressure as well.

With the limited use of a ski vs. an auto, your breakeven on conversion costs (if it turned out to be technologically feasible) would be years beyond your term of ownership... The only benefit (until technological advances make it cheap to convert) is the emotional "feel good" sensation one might derive from being "eco-friendly".

The quick easy answer: It's a stupid idea for several reasons and nobody in their right mind would buy into it.
