    Johnny's '95 PJS VHP 7000 Viper

My Viper got the love last winter with a new paint job. Don from Kansas happened to have some new decals for it too! Prior to that, the engine got a brand new crank and a rebuild with new pistons, etc. It is basically stock which is the 70 HP 550 reed motor with dual 750 reed cages and Boyesen Reeds topped by dual Keihin 38's. I changed the stock Flame Arrester for dual K & N's that are mesh and run Outerwears to keep the water out.

Pretty rare, I suppose. Only 500 of these ones made. It turns and holds a line really well. I think the tray is similar to that: 33 x 13 1/2"

I just picked up a 93' vhp 7000 this week looks goood but engine is toast, bent crank, scared the cases ect. I bought a t3 engine and am going to put it in but i'm worried about tuning and rideability it seems most people are saying the t3 isn't a good rec motor my previous ski was a roundnose sj. What impeller should I run?

It all depends if and how the motor is set up. If it is actually tuned to the pipe, you're going to need a big prop. My T-3 motor spins out a 17. I had impros repitch a couple props. The 20 degree seems to hook up pretty good. This is in a JS hull. The viper hull will be a lot worse since the boat weighs a lot more. Also, the PJS2500 pipe that these vipers come with doesn't work too good on a T-3 port...it is a little too long. You can run it but you're not going to get peak RPM out of it. I use a westcoast pipe with the cone cut down to just 2 rings. All my testing, this gave the highest peak RPM and top speed (obviously) under load.

All Viper owners should look at a better hood latch. I got this one from mcmaster carr for about $20.

Not too sure what you guys are referring to with T1 vs T3. Really, these are just 550 motors. The only difference is in the radical T-3 exhaust porting is that the RPM range is extended up and you need to have an exhaust that matches it. Also, the t-3, once you get it tuned, will need a 440 pump to actualy run past 6,000 RPM. You can fiddle with a 550 pump - prop size, exit nozzel, ...but I never got a 550 pump to work and let the T-3 porting rev up to 9,000 RPM under load. The 440 pump allows this.
