Help fix my bent trailer tounge

I just noticed my trailer's tounge has a slight bend to it. Any ideas on how I could straighten it back out? I tried banging it back into shape with a sledge hammer and even ran it over with my truck with no luck. Ideas?

You're going to heed heat, and a whole lot of it. And once you're done your going to need to weld flat stock along the area of the trailer where you applied the heat and bent it back.

This is hard to put in writing so look at my attached funny drawing. Hook trailer to car so tongue is held in place by the ball. Position trailer so bend in tongue is against an immovable object such as a steel pole or corner of your garage or building if it is concrete or brick. Go to back of trailer and push sideways so bend in tongue is pushed against the pole or building. If you push sideways on the back of the trailer the leverage will multiply the force put on the tongue where it contacts the pole or building.

The hardest part will be finding a spot where you can fit the car and the trailer against a suitable pole or building. If you have no good spot around the house you may want to find a large empty parking lot with lots of sturdy light poles.

I tried using leverage when I ran my truck over it. I backed the truck so the tire was right over the bend. I then wrapped a chain around one end and hooked it to my engine lift and started to jack it up. I managed to lift the truck up off the ground, but the bend was still there.

whether you heat it up with an O/A torch or you bend it back your still going to want to be sure and weld some stock across the bend as POM stated. i would reccomend heat. or cut the old part off and weld a new tongue on

How bad is it bent? I have pulled trailers with slightly bent tongues and it wasn't even noticeable. I would usually just recommend having it fixed properly instead of trying to bend it back. Bending takes strength away..so if you keep trying to rebend it, you are just weakening the metal...especially if heat is involved.

I would find a small trailer repair shop and see what they would charge to fix it before I went and made things worse by doing it myself.

    You need a bigger truck

How did it get bent. Just do it again but from the opposite side this time.
