I wonder who has all his old 550 race skis? You see Jeff's pop up every now and again.

Great thread, I remember the last time I saw Harry at the world finals he cracked me up. I can’t remember the year there were so many great years in those days and so many great racers plus tens of thousands of dedicated spectators.
Harry told me when we were walking around when he was painting houses in the summertime he would put race gas in his paint motor just so he could smell that smell of past years of racing. Boy were those guys in to racing in those days.

hell ya those were the years. I know I always mention it Bob but Mike Melby could/should still be out there in second trying to figure out how to get first. Long live Santa Barbara and all that it did for jet skiing. Few know, and im just a poser but.....

“Mike Melby”, the testing and racing Mike and I did in those days on the X2 and Blaster had Mike winning 1st over Tim Judge on the national tour when Tim was untouchable. Mike could turn buoys with the best very fast but most excellent a smart racer and that’s what it takes to be a champion. Santa Barbara was a great Jet Ski spot in those days with many racers benefiting from what we did here. Especially, Dan Fitzgerald and Jeff Jacobs even Tim Judge plus so many more with over 50 world championships to confirm it. But best was the surf riding here "The Wall” kept secret for almost 30 years. As many know including “Fussy” the SXI-PRO, SX-R designer at Kawasaki at 10-15’ feet 500 yards long inside the tube and the wave does 46 mph.
    Great times!

Man, I laugh my backsdie off every time I see Fish in that video with his bad acting and fanny pack - thanks for the giggle today.

And Mr. Morgan, I just rode with Fuzzy in Pismo a couple of weeks ago - the guy still rails and rides surf like a Big Dog - and is still a total sweetheart to boot! His kids should be riding soon so maybe we can get them into racing?

Re: What ever happened to 'Haulin' Harry Goatcher?

I talk to Conrad about twice a week now days he is doing like Conrad always does very good. We are going to start riding the “Wall” soon along with another big “WaveHunter” we rode with in those days at the oil piers Dan Fitzgerald. It’s about that time to ride big surf with big north swells coming down to Santa Barbara from Alaska storms. I even had a call last Friday from Herbie Fletcher checking in and a few days earlier Doug Silverstein checking on some 550 surf ride plates but Doug lives in Florida now days no more “Wall” for Doug. These guys rode the oil piers and the “Wall” on some the best days I have ever seen for years and years.

Lisa “Mr. Morgan” that is nice but its just Bob Morgan. I haven’t seen Fussy in years we rode surf together for so many years I can’t count them, a real lot of great fun. Fussy was even on the North Shore of Oahu when Herbie and I was filming jet skiing at pipeline in 1989. I did not know Fussy then we saw him with his 650sx in a truck riding around checking the surf.
Well it’s getting late and have to work early tomorrow, goodnight.
