Re: GPS based watercraft tracking device

Madscientist, I'm interested. What do you have?? I've been looking at the Spot but will check this one out also. I'm primarily interested in ground support knowing where we are.

from what i can tell, my system has all the features of the harpoon and approximately 7 day back up.

monitoring fee is only in effect if the online feature is used more than once a month. but no key fob neccesary.

i will get you more info.

Re: GPS based watercraft tracking device

Someone on the forum got a SPOT about a year ago. I was interested in getting one for theft recovery. I asked him to put it in his hull just under the plastic. The problem was that it was able to receive GPS but it was NOT able to transmit signals back to the satellite to report position.
It also doesn't support external power which is unfortunate.
SPOT is great for riding with and pulling it out but unfortunately not for a theft tracking device.

Check out what MadScientist has. I saw his threads last year and it seemed pretty good.

I can't post URLs yet, but go to maxsontechonline dot com and check out their security section, gps tracking devices... they have one for $200 that uses a pre-paid sim card to text its location to you...so there are no monthly fees. Sounds cool.. doesn't look water proof, but maybe could put it in a sealed bag or something

I am so sick of getting stuff stolen, thankfully my ski is yet to have this problem. But my truck has been broken into 3 times in the last 7 months, my wallet stolen twice, a cell phone stolen, and mail stolen. and I live in a nice area. These degenerates just go cruising.
