Harbor Freight has started carrying a nice looking series of two inch gauges for $20 each. One is a tachometer that goes to 8000 RPM, perfect for mid-90's Rotax engines. Its pickup connects to the low voltage side of the ignition coil. If you switch it for 4-cylinder operation I believe it will read accurately for 2-stroke Rotaxes.

Here's a link to the webpage:

My 96XP has a roughly two-inch circle on the fiberglass in front of the seat that could be cut out to accommodate such a gauge. I don't know what's behind it, or how much depth is available (the gauge requires 2-3 inches).

I haven't personally seen one of these gauges yet, but thought I'd share the idea.
I have an 04 GTI with a spot for a tach. Will this work switching to the 4cylinder mode?

    LOL!
Hey John, I got one too !
But I was thinking for the DIY'er he could put together a couple of those cheap guages very easily for under $50.00 to use at home.
Have you priced that Fluke lately? I hate to ask what it costs today.

I saw the same tach about a month ago, was wondering the same thing (if I could make it work on my 720). If anybody tries one out, let us know.

Should work just fine on the 4 cylinder setting if hooked to the coil terminal.

I don't see where this says anything about the gauge being suitable for a wet environment.

Unsure about this, but could quite possibly work on the 6 cylinder setting if hooked to the stator like the regular Seadoo tach.
