    LASERMAN Sport Cruiser Restore #2

    Greetings!

I have officaly started disassembly, so I thought it would be a good time to start this thread. I used to have three Sport Cruisers, but I am down to one now. I have decided to paint it to match my standup, which is a Sapphire metalic pearl. I also plan to use lots of chrome. I am also planning on doing something different for the seat, but that will come later. I have set a goal of 4th of July weekend for her debut. Since I have the engine out, I'll probably do some upgrades there as well. I still have that R&D dual 44 intake, and I have an MRD fuel system coming soon too. Decisions, decisions. Here's some pics of the first day's work. This will document the "before".

..and yes Felix, this is your old ski, going through yet ANOTHER makeover!

    looking good.

it's about time you started working on that. you've been talking about it for a while now.

what did you do with all that stuff you had on the shelves in there?

I'll have to come over and check it out once you get a little bit further along, and bring mine once I get done with this paint.

What you see was about 3 hours work (from running condition to stripped.) I'm getting way too familiar with these skis. The cleaning is next. Then the sanding. this ski is going to take alot of sanding. I'm going to install a second battery for the stereo. I'm not sure if I should use an isolator. I'm really excited about replacing that seat - It will be nice to ride it without getting a wet azz.

I was waiting for someone to notice the turfed bar stool! I am compiling data for a book: 101 uses for old Hydro-turf.

UPDATE: I did the inside cleaning today. It should be ready for paint inside tomorrow. For those who don't know, this ski has a stereo in it:

There's a powered subwoofer too. It WAS stashed behind the battery on the side opposite the tank. There's lots of room inside a Sport Cruiser.

Having it inside the engine bay was a less-than-optimal solution. Venting the lows without venting the engine noise was a challenge. As I was washing the inside of the front, I noticed an area behind the cable holder - it's right behind the foot rest - WHERE THE SUB WILL FIT! It will actually be mounted to the footrest wall. There is alot of wasted space up front. Not for long! This also makes wiring easier.

So now that I got the sub in there, I have to get it out. I still need to paint inside.

I'll try to find the program that tells you the port size and length.

We need to know the size of the sub, size of the compartment and how many watts.
