    Re: 1978 Wetbike Rebuild

    Looks good.
I am off to the lake tomorrow for my first wetbike ride of the year.
It has just been too cold lately. It is finally starting to warm up.
Usually by this time, I am a solid month into the riding season.
I noticed you don't have any foot skids on your bike.
I have them in stock if you need them, as well as the ankle pads, even though they didn't come on the '78 wetbike, you can still put them on and they look sharp.

So something I've learned. If it's older than you are, it probably needs new fuel lines.

She runs like a champ, well, until the carbs get plugged up. Also, make sure you check those fuel filters. Mine were broken open so all the garbage was going right through it.

31.7 MPH - not bad for a 1978 with no mods!

it's fun to have something weird. I had a teenager come up to me on monday and was like "whoa, is that an origanal James Bond Wetbike? I've never seen one in person..."

good times to know the old stuff still runs!

    Still runs like a champ.

I did have a mishap a few weeks ago when the front ski broke clean off. Riding it back to the ramp dong a wheelie the whole way was not fun. It was my fault though - there was some slop in the steering tube, and I think it allowed the front of the ski to dip below a wave or catch on some driftwood or something. The crash was something spectacular though!

What amazes me the most is that this thing will start up immediately every time with a click or two on the start button. Not bad for 30 year old engine! I've got probably 15 running hours on it now over the summer.

Keep checking back - I found another bike that is under the knife right now. I'm hoping to get big pinky up and running before it gets too much colder up here in Oregon.

    ever try riding a raider?

Other than some weird stuff, I've had pretty much no issues with either of them.
