Damn...I just chopped up two 650sx and two 550 hulls last week. I cound have cut some blocks and compared......Every time I throw something away, I end up wishing I had used it for something!
Actually I just set both the 650SX pump and shaft along side the 550SX pump and shaft. Surprisingly both pump assemblies are nearly identical in length from the front of the intake cavity to the tip of the turning nozzle. The impeller seems to be set back the same distance as well.
The 550SX shaft is 3.5" longer than the 650... so if I can get the 650 pump in the same centered location, the 550 shaft will work as is. Bearings and splines are the same. The other interesting thing is the steering nozzles have the same bore and it looks like the steering cable will line up as is.

The 650 has mounting tabs kind of on an angle and the 550 seems parallel to the pump shaft. Looks like the 650 pump is about 7/8" bigger in diameter than the 550 and will need to set about 3/4" higher to center,,, which means the tray floor will have to raise.

Will try and get Pics as I go...

    Re: Conversion ski- Conversion Pump?

Got a lot of measuring done today... looks like the engine and driveshaft support bearing are going to have to be raised about 1/2" to center with the larger diameter pump. To keep the bottom all aligned, the pump center has to move up... but I think that can be done with the engine adapter plate.

Looks like the pump and cavity will fit... the center runner on the 650 is a bit wider than on the 550 and I am trying to decide how and where to blend them.
    Hope to start cutting tomorrow.

I am surprised how similar the the bottom shapes are. Took lots of pics and will post when I get on the other computer.

I guess I should move this to Personal Builds but it seems there is a lot of interest here on Vintage,,,what do you think?

OK... here are some pics... pump comparisons, note 3 1/2" longer drive shaft on 550SX. The current plan is to splice the whole 650 pump cavity into the 550. Runner down the center is a little wider than the 550. Flutes are very close. Overall lenght is the same.

Here is a shot of the 650 insert without all the foam...You can see the steering cable tube which I will need to replace. I will also a add bigger water line and rear exhaust before I re-foam everything...
