2004 F12 engine fails- Honda replaces engine

I am providing a short history to my recent engine failure and Honda’s replacement in hopes that it may serve as a reference to some on this forum.

    1. My Honda 04 F12 engine died at 545 hours. (Guys at the Honda shop showed me that one of the spark plug heads was actually smashed.)

    2. I was on the second year of my three-year extended warranty. It was determined the warranty would cover the engine replacement. (I have no mods)

    3. The shop looked for a new replacement Honda motor, none could be found.

    4. The engine was rebuilt (There was a two week wait on some parts like the cylinder). Total rebuild time six weeks.

    5. I paid for the new pump and impeller ($815.00). Honda covered the rest under the extended warranty.

    6. I am now back in the water. Runs Great?

    7. As a side note, a few years back my Sea Doo GTX 4tec engine died after 350 hours. I was three months into a three year extended warranty. Sea Doo would would not cover the engine failure. (That is when I jumped ship) I am not brand bashing hear, I’m just stating the facts. It is, what it is.

Woh!! your happy about this? your post says you should be hopping MAD! at Honda! I sure would be!

If the warranty covers ENGINE REPLACEMENT, why did you let them skate and rebuild it!

No engine could be found? More like no one looked!
Honda just ripped you off and your happy, blows my mind.

So rather than a new engine (that you should have got) you have a used engine with 500+ hrs on it, sure they relplaced a few parts, but its still a 500 hr+ engine.

I just goes to show you that if you keep a customers ski long enough they will be happy just to get it back.

Checking my post, I didn’t express an emotional state. I just gave “a short history”.
I did not say I was happy or sad.

After being treated so bad by Sea Doo, my treatment form Honda was relative.

The main reasons I decided to post was to let the group know that, “in this case” Honda did not replace the motor, only replaced needed parts. My hope is that, with posts from others, a Honda service profile can be built. After all, we are not riding Honda’s for speed………

Hondo had better excel in service and dependability.

Sounds like another valve failure. When my exhaust valve stuck it took out the piston and smashed the spark plug flat too.
I am glad you had a better Dealer than mine, my 'ski only had 135 hours and 3 more years of warranty.
I think Honda is starting to realize they need to be more warranty-friendly.
Fred, did they rebuild it under warranty or under "goodwill"?
