My Brother had one of his LED lights go dead on half of the array. They are not 100% bullet proof yet. I think the deal is to stay away from the cheaper brands. They do seem to be better than the old style lights though.

My Zieman came with the double encased lights and they are still working good.

You gotta get them in the water more often, they'll die.

Seems like if they are sealed it wouldn't matter how many times you dipped them if the water isn't making contact with the metal parts of the bulb or socket. I think it is more of a time thing with the seal becoming degraded. I don't think the water is going to speed up that process. I also unplug my trailer lights. I used to think it was only about the bulbs breaking from shock but I was reading some stuff on electrolysis and it seems like just the short amount of time the trailer is in salt water with 12 volts can really do some damage over repeated launches.

I never had one problem in 5 1/2 years with my bulbs(no burn-out yet), yes I like the LED's just haven't thought much about changing even though I know they are safer

P.S. For safety I always drive with the lights on and never turn them out when putting the ski's into the water

Yup, it's the seals and connections that degrade and fail. I have sealed lights on my trailer and I've found them half full of water etc........ time and dunkings matter.

I do the same for all the reasons I can think of. I started out not unplugging them and I think it was worse. Maybe with LED's it won't matter, not sure.

You are very lucky or you don't drive enough miles for the vibration to take a toll on them. Vibration is the second biggest contributor to failure. I balance my trailer tires to help alleviate the problem.

For reference, my current trailer has a bit over 20,000 miles on it now.

    Re: The (socal) Trailer Thread

Pirate, I agree. My MDX has daytime running lights and my trailer lights are always on when I'm towing. I think this is an advantage for safety.

As for the LED's vs. normal bulbs. I'm in for whatever keeps working!!!!!! Low maintenance/high quality is my goal here.

I love the thinking in this group. Put it in the water enough and something will break!!!!! Isn't that the one reality we all can look forward to with our toys!!!

He who dies with the most toys.....can't ride them anymore. Have fun and be safe!!!

    Re: The (socal) Trailer Thread

E-GADS...... Dans got me again I believe he is correct in the vibration since I don't even have close to that mileage!! I will check with the mechanics at work on the pros and cons of the LEDs in the new vehicles in our fleet
The only thing that bugs me about the LED's is that on both of my Suburbans the 3rd brake light had failure of some of the LED's within the light strip-maybe its anger transmitted from the pretty pirate princess to the LED lights during driving that causes the failure?
