    1995 Wave Raider, no spark?

This past Friday was the first time out for the season on my 95 wave raider. All was fine for most of the afternoon, probably ran thru a 1/2 tank of gas. Long story short: the engine was shut off for a short time out in the lake, went to re start and it wouldn't fire. it would turn over but it wouldn't fire up. Had it towed in and brought it home. At home I pulled the plugs, maybe a little on the oily side, so I replaced them. Tried to start it up again, still nothing. Seemed to me it was wasn't getting fuel, so I sprayed alittle starter fluid, still nothing. The fused link in the black box appears to be good. What else do I check or is there something obvious I missed?
Any suggestion's or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Start/Stop switch. On the left hand side of the ski "inside" you will see the wires going to the box. There should be a brown/red and a white/black. Unplug the white/black and see if she starts. To kill it just plug in the wires and it will die...or hit the stop/pull laynard

Re: 1995 Wave Raider, no spark?

    1. Spark
    2. Mixture
    3. Compression

That's the three things you need to start with. Does it have any spark at all at this point? If it doesn't,
    1. Bad CDI
    2. Bad Stator
    3. Fuse
    4. Start stop switch
    5. Bad coil and or wire
    6. Bad plugs

    IF it has spark,
    1. Fuel in the tank
    2. Fuel through the lines and you can see fuel in the filter
    3. Carbs properly jetted "is is stock?"

Lastly Compression....does it have 150PSI of compression on both cylinders? If not, how far off is it..? You can have about 10% max difference before something else is amiss. I would pick up a tester from Autozone, Napa or Advance auto and test it.

    Let me know,

Re: 1995 Wave Raider, no spark?

Easy way to check if there is spark is leave the plugs attached on top of the motor and hit the start button. The actual number you get on a compression test is not that important, what is important is the variation between cylinders.(different gauges give wildly different readings).
Notice anything funny before you shut it down?
Has the electric box or the stator been off recently?
Btw Mike you forgot one, is there any gas and is the valve turned on?( oh ya guilty of that one)
2nd btw Thanks Mike never thought of just unplugging the switch to see if that's the problem, because on my sj it's always the problem.

    1. Won't matter if fuel is in the tank if it's in the filter "wink"
    2. Fuel valve on...geesh...hopefully if "This past Friday was the first time out for the season on my 95 wave raider. All was fine for most of the afternoon, probably ran thru a 1/2 tank of gas." it made it that far it was on "wink x2 "

Let's see his response and go from there. Also compression does matter as below 90psi it wont run regardless on a 61X or 62T

Hi Mike the worst part about it is, it was a new engine and i just wanted to tune it. Started it at home(The beach is 15 minutes away) get to the beach and slowly kill the battery. Get home and the next day walking by notice the fuel switch is off.One of those days where you just want to kick your own azz.Lol
Agreed really low compression can be a concern, but i own 4 gauges and they all produce different results by as much as 30 lbs between them. 3 are screw in and one is a push on style.
If compression was low before he went out riding it would have been hard to start.
Wonder how many guys with carb problems, might just be a can of compression required. Hum (Available at napa for 24.99 a pint)LOL
