I haven't heard of any problems. I think it has the cv carbs and can be a little hard to crank over the first time. If you find this to be true make a post and we can give you some suggestions. Good Luck!

I have the same ski and I like it. The do have a starting problem due to the cv carbs but a primer works wonders. As for reliabilty they are very good. The ride is a little nose heavy so the ride will not be as "dry" as on some other models. If you are thinking mods there are alot of bolt on parts out there, and people to get help from, just do a little homework before buying to be sure you know what your getting.
1998 KAWASAKI 1100 STX ANY PROBLEMS
I HAVE OWNED ONE FOR GOING ON 3 YRS. NOW. I HAVE ABOUT 90 HRS. ON IT NOW AND THE ONLY THING THAT IT REALLY NEEDS IS TO TAKE OFF THE CHOKE AND INSTALL A PRIMER KIT. I KILLED MY BATTERY TWICE WITH THE CHOKE. IF YOU HAVE ANY TROUBLE WITH THE CV CARBS. TALK WITH STEVE AT SKIWORX, HE'S GREAT WITH THOSE CARBS. IT'S A GREAT SKI, VERY RELIEABLE, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T MOD. IT TOO MUCH. GOOD LUCK.
Have the 1997 model (basically the same ride). I've read that these start a little hard but I've had no problems at all. About 70 hours and not one issue. Rock solid.
Compared to other jet ski's I've found it to be a dry ride and very stable. Great ski.
reliability on the engine is great. The ski has a couple shortcomings in my opinion. I hated the ride at first but then grew to like it. It does beat you u[p in the chop though but I haven't been on many skiis that accelerate this fast. The engine is very rev happy. The gas mileage stinks but is comparable to any high output pwc engine.
Overall I would buy that ski as long as it was for a good price.
Very good point.
Gas mileage does stink. Forgot about that. Otherwise great ski.
98 is when they started the CV carbs, 97 had the old style.
The 1100 engine uses a lot of gas, and can be a bit rough at idle.
Other than that they are very dependable.
Wise racer, What was involved with the Skiworx mod that was done to the carbs for your 1100STX?
I have a '99 and love it. I have the shortend OE rideplate from ZXIman, along with an extended nozzle and pump wedge. With those three easy bolt ons, I saw a 3MPH increase on sevral outting with my GPS. You have to loose the reverse, but it is pretty useless anyway. But the best thing is how much better it rides with more of the nose out of the water. Remember, this is the non-DI hull, not like a STX-R. Another good mod is to ace the CV carbs and find a good deal on some Mega-Flow carbs ('97 style that have been gone over and have an extra circuit added to them for the mid range like the Xi and XiR had). Also Pro Design makes a head called a Cool Head and it's a mono head.
Alost of the same mods for the STX 1100 work on the ZXI 1100 too, What size ZXI is it, 1100,900 or 750?
