    Re: First JS440 build!

Itís a Mercury 240 EFI Sportjet. One of the coolest engines ever IMO. Planes in 3 seconds and sounds awesome. I haven't had any issues with it and itís super easy to maintain. The boat consistently...

    Re: First JS440 build!

Just been working on boring sanding and more sanding. I finally removed all the original safety stickers. About to turn the hull over and glass some small cracks in the bottom.

    I am about to close...

    Re: First JS440 build!

And just for fun, I put a couple coats on the inside of the engine cover as well.

    Re: First JS440 build!

Just some Rustoleum paint and primer in “Thundercloud” gray. I’ve always liked the machine gray look.

    Re: First JS440 build!

So after lots of cleaning, drying, brake cleaning, vacuuming, etc. I finally got the engine bay clean enough to start spraying.

Here we have a still wet first coat.

    Re: First JS440 build!

Thanks E350! I have a 38 mm manifold on the way so hopefully I should be alright.

I will likely have to fabricate a throttle bracket as I'm missing that as well. But that is easy enough since I...

    Re: First JS440 build!

    Can't edit any longer.

I think I figured it out.
The JS440 gasket kit I had has gaskets for both sides of the carb, and they do fit my carb correctly. Thus the manifold is the problem.

    Gonna...

    JS440 carb and manifold issue

I have a build going in the Individual Builds section and I have run into a major snag.

I either bought the wrong carb or the intake manifold that came in the pile of parts is the wrong size.

    Re: First JS440 build!

Well I have run into a major snag.

I either bought the wrong carb or the intake manifold is the wrong size.

The manifold bolts are 3" apart, and the carb holes are 2.5" apart. Obviously not...

    Re: First JS440 build!

Finally put the motor back together today!

I found that the base gaskets were worthless. The stud holes were too small. The two gaskets overlapped between the cylinders and that was not going to...

    Re: First JS440 build!

Made a bot of progress on the hull yesterday.

Ground off the leftover foam traction mats and removed the adhesive from the handlebar mount and control area.
Did a bit of sanding in the footwell...

    Re: First JS440 build!

Not too much progress since I have been hella busy lately.

I finally removed the control panel and fuel reserve switch. Took a lot of heat with a heat gun but eventually got a bad through the...

    Re: First JS440 build!

Did a bit of honing today. Definitely not my best work as I didn't get the angle quite right. Should be enough for this little engine though.

I apologize for the crap-tastic photo. My new phone is...

    Re: First JS440 build!

Finally got back to work today.

Worked on cleaning up the engine today. Got the PTO couple off, all the old gasket material and sealant from everything.

Reinstalled the two missing studs with...

    Re: First JS440 build!

Are you keeping the stock 440? I am nervous that its a better value to just install a rebuilt 550 from SBT.

    Re: First JS440 build!

    So more progress!

I drowned my phone last weekend so some photos have been lost. These were taken with my ancient iPhone 5.

Today I split the case on the engine.

This thing is is pretty good...

    Re: First JS440 build!

    Second update:

I just started tearing down the pump and it appears that there are nw roller bearings in the stator assembly? Just a pressed in bushing and two seals back to back. Is that correct?...

    Re: First JS440 build!

Day three has completed with a bit of progress. I ordered a crap-ton of painting supplies from Eastwood so that should be here soon. The new Carb showed up as well and I didn't realize that it didn't...

    Day two went well!

Got the Pole totally stripped and the front half of the ski gutted.

Any tips on removing the Choke and Fuel reserve switch plate? It appears glued on....

    Re: First JS440 build!

A fresh white paint and decals looks cool, but decals cost at least $150 and a white ski will always look a bit dated. Modern skis are solid colors because it looks cooler IMO.

    First JS440 build!

    Hello everyone!
I just finished up a Tigerskark TS1000L and sold that off a couple weeks ago. I had the itch to try a standup ski and found this old turd a state away.

    Drove 3 hours and packed...
