Sadly, I need the SX pump ... already have a few reasonable JS pumps, although certainly not blueprinted. hmmm, does my 87 deserve an upgrade, or do I try to make that an SX pump hmmm?
-
That's what I needed to know before I take things apart - it's not a direct swap so I need to hit the bearing store. Thanks!
-
I searched but wasn't able to find a definitive answer. I have a decent 550 and a beat SX pump ... I know the shoe and such as interchangeable, but can I just yank the guts and rebuild with the SX...

I have the exhaust bits. PM coming

This is the same impeller ... amazinghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201209/91d1f257e29c9dd31dccb92708738b64.jpg

kind of late? 2 years and 3 months!

Yeah, I've figured most of it out since these came home LOL. I like the SX design with the free-floating driveshaft but most of my parts were from pre-SX boats LOL. Got a replacement bearing carrier...
-
Ask for a photo with something specific in it, like a plate or jar of peanut butter ... that'll confuse them and prove they have the part at least
-
Same here. I'm slowly getting into my minor repair and your posts and PMs have been extremely helpful. I'm going to order the epoxy and associated stuff after the holiday.
-
I believe my SX is a 90 and I'm probably going to use a non-SX pole bc that's what I have in good shape.
-
I thought the SX (after 1990) changed a bit so the plates aren't mix and match?
-
Working on my Frankenski and will need a few bits before I hit the water in the spring. Bad news is that I'm cheap, good news is that I have plenty of time before I need to panic buy lol
So far,...

Not planning to remove them fully, perhaps just sand a small 1/8" channel in them to facilitate water moving back to the bilge and not sitting there for days.
Of course, I'll need to get motivated...
-
I'm slowly repairing my 550SX (yay, sanding!, he said sarcastically) and I started thinking about the ribs under the motor plate. I assume they're for both manufacturing and rigidity purposes but...
-
Agreed!
I can only dream of putting the time and effort into mine to look that good ... never going to happen. LOL
-
I'm certainly no expert, but I agree that something seems odd. I thought the SX hulls were "stepped" in the rear, and the FE hole was on the left side; the rear exhaust in an alcove of sorts with an...

I grabbed the 89 side exhaust hull today. Nice kid ... and now I have a 650sx hull, but with papers! Lol

Funny, bc I'm considering the one with the side exhaust as another project lol

two just popped up on Marketplace in MA

-
There have been quite a few on FB marketplace lately. I usually don't attention bc I'm after 550s and don't need to complicate things with 650s too LOL.
-
I searched to no avail, and yea I realize I can just find another used one that's not bulging, but let's say my winter search comes up empty and I want a shop to put in a new wear ring ... does that...

Found this http://www.pwctoday.com/showthread.php?t=329204

I don't know how the SX pads attach - I do notice they have holes in the hull to grab (I assume). However, you don't necessarily need to use SX specific pads and can remove it all and glue down HT...

That’s how I read it, too. If I decide to use this pump/impeller I’m going to call to verify.

The phrase "suck it, douchebag" comes to mind

No, it's his he told us so, then told us to get jobs but STILL hasn't posted a price ...
-
Yikes. I don't have the answers but I'd be pissed if it wasn't mentioned at all, or offered as a charge to weld and repair.
I'm considering sending one to Impros that is clearly missing huge...

Is he Matt Johnson or Drew Spencer? Screen and email are a bit off LOL

Been slowly tinkering and today got a chance to stick the Sea Doo 581 starter in to see what would happen.
One bolt, some WD-40 (didn’t have starting fluid haha) and a brief breath before hitting...

I went to my brother’s house and grabbed our old parts ski this weekend. My plan, is to Frankenstein these together to make one ... since the green one needs a pump and the red one an engine. ...
-
Not looking to spend a lot of loot (read: the cheaper the better, and free is even better haha) for a hull with a title, or other paperwork, so I can register it eventually.
I don't need parts,...

Sadly, it was a classic Skat Trak 13/16

That’s what I thought, but fancy with peeling red paint haha.
Impeller is DONE. Hull needs some attention, including inserts for the ride plate bolts. Good times....
-
Any idea what the intake manifold is?
...
-
It was "a ripper" I'm told ... but other than that I have no history. I'll grab some more pix and post them, but it was a built ski at one time, just needs a LOT of help now. Westcoast pipe, Coffman...

If the noises this thing is making are normal I'm very scared LOL.
-
Picked up a new project last night ... of course, I have an 87 that needs some attention already lol.
This one needs lots of pump work (the noises that came from it are horrendous) and a general...

I'm telling you (with no true knowledge other than personal anecdote) it ain't the carb ...

I have basically the same issue ... and while I'm NO expert on these things I truly believe it to be crank seals. I had the same issue back in the mid-90s and now again it happened last weekend to...
-
SO ... here's a story. I have a similar issue right meow on my 87 550. Back about 95 I bought my ski from a childhood friend, in pieces. The ski never ran right, always ran hot and never had...
