    My understanding of the issue is that bad diodes in the rectifier allow AC voltage to bleed into the system, since the ignition system is DC this kills some of the voltage causing a misfire.

    Most all of the reputable paint places have an electric eye device, it scans the paint and tries to match it to the closest thing in it's database, the results are pretty much dead on the money.

    I was about to say check the reeds I have seen many sets of Yamaha reeds that were bad and had no visible damage, they too wouldn't rev in the water, mostly on 1100 and 1200 NPV engines though
