    Sea-Doo crankcase pressure test

    562780

Had to make some block off plates so I can do a crankcase pressure test to rule out any issues with the crank seals. Did the oil nipples on the bench first, that held. Now doing the...

Re: Check out this cylinder failure. 720

Top end is back together. I need to make a block off plate for the carb and exhaust so I can do a pressure / vac test of the crank case.

Looks like I have to remove the entire RV cover then...

Re: Check out this cylinder failure. 720

Started the re-assembly with new parts. So I'm going to put the top end together, and I'm making some block off plates for the carb and exhaust. My plan is to pressurize and then vacuum test the...

Re: Check out this cylinder failure. 720

I don't think there is any issues with the carb.. I'd expect both cylinders to be lean.

One thing I cannot explain though, when I first got this on the water it kept dying after like 45 seconds...

Re: Check out this cylinder failure. 720

So. I checked the oil lines, and they have oil in them, the squirter appears to have oil. So now I'm not sure that it's lubrication after all.

The other piston has absolutely no signs of any...

Re: Check out this cylinder failure. 720

That's my assumption, other cylinder is fine. I think I messed up when I disconnected the oil pump and didn't bleed it. maybe. I don't know.

The engine only had 80 hours on it, which is why I...

Re: Check out this cylinder failure. 720

I will have to take some more pictures tomorrow, but the exhaust side is perfectly fine.

I was thinking about this earlier, you would think that the bearings would have failed before the piston...

Re: Check out this cylinder failure. 720

Well.. Hrmm.. I have a single carb, that I sent out to a forum member to rebuild. I'd assume it was set up properly and not running lean.

I'll inspect the lines and check valves. Thank you.

Check out this cylinder failure. 720

What do you think caused this? Oil injection failure? Damage is only on the carb side.

    Re: 720 compression loss

Yeah I just don't get how that would just happen. The thing had 150psi after sitting for 5 years. Then it dies after 20 minutes of run time?

But I mean, I guess it happens. On the sleds usually...

    Re: 720 compression loss

720 from 2001. I pulled it out of a GTS that had 50 hours on it. Had 150 psi in both cyls. This is the one that I sent you the carb to redo.

It would start immediately and die every couple...

    Re: 720 compression loss

I put it back together with all new gaskets a few minutes ago. Still 150 psi on the pto 60 psi on the mag. I don't get it. The pistons, cylinder walls, etc look perfect. Oily, but perfect.

    I...

    720 compression loss

I don't get it, this thing was running awesome for 20 minutes and then it died in the water. Told it back and did a compression test 150 psi on the PTO 60 psi on the mag.

Last week it had 150 PSI...

    Sportster impeller selection

    Hey guys,

    I have a 1995 Sportster that I swapped from a 657X to a 720 single carb.

The original Impeller (aluminum / bronze housing) is a 271000454 15/21 pitch.

    It looks like when Sea-Doo...

Re: Swapping 717 into a boat that had a 657X

    Ok that seams reasonable .

I've had the boat for several years. Just kept hydro locking with oil because of the bad crank seals. I have a ton of 717 stuff in the shop from different machines I've...

Re: Swapping 717 into a boat that had a 657X

Sounds good. Can you rebuild but retain/fix the accelerator pump?

I was going to take it apart and toss it in my ultrasonic and go from there, but it's just one less thing to deal with if I send...

Re: Swapping 717 into a boat that had a 657X

How much to rebuild the carb and what is the turn around?

In regards to the head cover, the 717 has 3 ports and the 657x had two. So where would I connect the hoses? I figured I'd the cover had...

    Swapping 717 into a boat that had a 657X

    Hey guys,

I'm swapping engines in my old sportster. The crank seals are bad and the motor was filling up to the bottom of the intake with oil.

Anyhow, I have this 717 from a wrecked GTI or GTS...
  21. 657 fuel supply, only 1 carb gets filter?

I just parted out a '94 XP for the motor to use on my GTS. The fuel line routing didn't look 'right'.

Out of the baffle, two lines went to the fuel selector, then one line came out of that into...

Re: Repower '93 GTS with motor from my '94 XP

I'm wondering if I should just swap this instead of the whole electrical box.

Since the motor will be on the bench it shouldn't take a whole lot more time to just yank the flywheel.

    The spark...

    Re: 1993 xp bogging

Thank you for the reply. Would you say it would be easier than to remove the electronic box with the engine and swap it into the GTS hull, since the XP is functioning?

Repower '93 GTS with motor from my '94 XP

My XP hull is just.. old, and trashed.. I got a deal on a '93 GTS with a blown motor. (rusted actually). From what I understand, a GTX is a GTS with a 657.

So i'd like to put the 657 in the GTS.. ...
