    Re: Yamasaki vibration ??

    39+ mph with just me.
34mph with 4 adults, a dog, and a full cooler.
    Drives like a big WR3.

    Project FX1 for 2022

Winter project #2 complete and on to #3.

I'm not even 100% sure what I'm in for here, lol.
Local rider came to our 2nd annual jet ski swap meet in October of 2020, and we shared a bunch of ideas....
  6. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

Fogged and now sharing hibernation space with a flock of modded SNs. It's OK, they're all friendly :)

    Re: Yamasaki vibration ??

    Very nice.
She looks about as zippy as my single carb 701 13.5 foot BW Rage :)

  8. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

Now we just need to wait until Spring for the test ride and final tuning.
Motor sounds beautiful. Very strong. Have avgas in it now, so the carbs and fuel lines are stable and ready to just sit. ...
  9. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

    A few more pictures.
I forgot to take a before picture of the underside of this hood. Put it this way: I didn't realize the underside was white until about 10 minutes with a rag and degreaser. ...
  10. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

    This is pretty much it.
Keep in mind this was intended to be strictly a mechanical correction project...noting cosmetically done...other than removing about 1/4 inch of grime that was covering...

    Re: Yamasaki vibration ??

I'd have to go back to my own thread to tell you where it wound up, but normally 2mm is my goal. On rare occasions I've been out as far as 3mm or as tight as 1.5mm, without issues, but I'd say 1.5mm...

    Re: Yamasaki vibration ??

Sleepersaki has a 750 kawi pump, so the impeller isn't threaded on to the driveshaft. After getting everything aligned and then seeing how far rearward the driveshaft would slide back into the...

    Re: Yamasaki vibration ??

The Rhaas mounts worked as-is for me with no mods. I just probably spent a good 2 hours on getting the alignment perfect once all torqued down. Didn't stop at "good enough" or "close". You may...

Re: Just another silly Squarenose re-do

    So, just to clarify:
    Plan A.
I'm looking to TRADE this 1990 Yamaha 701 Super Jet for an aftermarket standup hull/hood/pole combo, possibly with a pump as well. Can add cash for the right deal. I'm...

    Re: Yamasaki vibration ??

Go read the JS701 Sleepersaki raffle ski thread in the BJP section.
Robin came to Jet Blast, rode it himself all week, and said it was the smoothest conversion ski he'd experienced personally.
    ...
  16. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

This isn't perfect, but much better than it was.
    Process was simple.
Lay out the WR3 gasket into the rear of the groove and towards the front, then make 2 straight cuts a few inches ahead of the...
  17. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

This is how much material needs to be cut out of a WR3 hood gasket to fit the gasket to a RN.
Will post some completed install pictures shortly.

Stop throwing WR3 hood gaskets in the trash, lol. ...
  18. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

    Hood gasket time.
This hood gasket isn't totally trashed, and is essentially functional, but it really should be replaced.
I have so many nice OEM gaskets from waverunner part out skis, that never...
  19. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

Sometimes you gotta dream big, lol.
So Dave wanted the handlepole setup converted back to a traditional pole spring dealio. I prefer that as well. OEM spring I had in my stash needed some creative...

Thanks for the compliments, and you're welcome.

FWIW, I warned Dave before I took this one on that I was gonna nitpick all the fun stuff I found and then document the resolution process as I did...
  22. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

    .....and she goes vroom vroom!!
    A few issues left:
    Primer leaks like crazy.
    Hood gasket is crap.
    Bilge switch is finicky.

Also need to re-stick some loose turf.

    But she sounds brappy. ...
  23. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

I hate this part....running the fuel lines & other final tedious stuff. Never goes quick, and the anticipation of wanting to hear the ski go vroom vroom just adds to the "fun".
    :)

  24. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

Always measure your fuel tank depth at the pickup neck and compare it to the length the pick ups are set at.
SJs are basically 12.5 inches deep to the top of the neck. Then measure from the top of...
  25. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

The tank vent check valve was also stuck and not flowing in either direction...which only makes it even harder/impossible for the fuel pumps to feed the carbs, which had strainers that were clogged...
  26. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

There is now a reasonable gap between the tank and the chamber, but I know better than to trust it. I will fit a pad in there, and since gluing a pad to the tank never survives, I like to basically...
  27. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

Hard to see in the pictures, but this tank was being "attacked" in several places, partly due to zero padding underneath it when the ski came to me. All of this is now addressed.

  28. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

What could be more fun on a frigid Sunday morning than mopping and strumming a grimy gas tank :) ?

  29. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

Just another example of why paying attention to what might be, or is, rubbing on what, is important to pay attention to during assembly...and then make an effective plan to not have this happen....

Re: Yet another square nose build

    But I see you're...
  31. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

When the inside of your gas tank matches the outside.
Will be cleaning and installing this tomorrow.

So, as I understand the history on this ski, it burned up a top end.
    Then $1200 was recently...
  32. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

    Plumbing is done.
My basic & standard dual cooling, w/o anything fancy.
Two 3/8" cooling feed lines from the pump.
Two cooling lines feeding the exhaust manifold.
Two 3/8" exits off the head....
  33. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

This nosepiece was missing 1 of the 2 screws that secure it when the ski came to me, and the 1 screw still there was loose. Adding some 3m 5200 to the screws will prevent repeating that failure.

  34. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

Here is the poster child example of why you need to really think before drilling holes in your hull.
Note where this rearward side pisser is located.
Whoever drilled it put it so low that now any...
  35. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

If you don't own one of these, for grabbing and twisting exhaust hoses, to get them clocked absolutely correctly, you're wasting time and effort.

  36. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

    Note the...
  37. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

  38. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

Correctly clocking the hose clamps matters if you want to make your life easy later on. This isn't how I found them, but I'm leaving it how I like them.

  39. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

    Slight problem.
Now the chamber is way too nice for the rest of the ski.

  41. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

I forgot to clearance the bed plate for the b-pipe while the motor was out.
Oh well. Not a big deal to dremel it in the hull.

  42. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

I decided to scuff the chamber with my oscillating tool and hit it with heat paint.

  43. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

So this is what the chamber looked like 2 hours ago.
Dave says the ski never ran hot, but looking at the kinked water lines, single cooling with 2 full dumps off the head previously, and no OH...
  44. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

BTW, the new handlebars were donated by Blastedude...thanks Jason!!
  45. Re: The 08 SJ "not actually a raffle ski" Build Thread

Switching to the OEM turnplate requires a little extra effort to maintain max steering nozzle throw.

I ordered new 4 degree bars w/crossbar pad today. Guess I'll have time to clean up the FP...
