    X2 on checking the waterbox, a clogged exhaust has all the symtoms you have stated , if nothing else plump in a piece of PVC tubing and run it, then you will know.

    They require periodic maintaince regardless of what oil is used but yes defiantly less with synthetic oil, blown head gaskets are not a common thing on these engines , I have never seen one personally
