  1. Re: 04 R12X, Black and White, Las Vegas/Boulder City, $5000

    ^^ bump

    Wastegate solenoid replaced

Very clean, low-hour ski. I'm back in town and ready to show.

  2. 04 R12X, Black and White, Las Vegas/Boulder City, $5000

I've owned this ski for about exactly 1 year; bought it late last summer and put maybe 40-50 hours on it, really I only rode it a few months due to an arm injury mid-spring -- unfortunately a family...

    Re: another waste gate question

I missed this question. The solenoid is very easy to get to - from the riders perspective, the solenoid sits on the rear-left side of the valve cover; it's very easy to access, you shouldn't even...

    Re: another waste gate question

I hadn't thought about the wg being stuck open; seems like it would have to be intermittent though if the motor ran up to 6k under load?

    Sticky actuator rod?

    That's a lot of codes though, I'd...

    Re: another waste gate question

If the WG was stuck and you gave it enough juice to hit 6k, assuming the MAP sensor is working, you'd throw a code and the ski would cut the throttle.

I'm pretty new to these skis and motors, but...

    Weight of superjet motors

What's the weight of the stock twin in say an 08 SJ, including the exhaust?

Also, what would be an appx weight of say a 900 triple that I saw someone attempting to swap in?

    Just looking for...

    Re: another waste gate question

    sticky solenoid?

Maybe spray some cleaner in there, or disconnect the solenoid cable and see if it ever runs up over 5500ish.

If you pull that pressure feed into the WG and it pulls like a 600...

    Re: another waste gate question

Pull the pressure feed line that runs into the wastegate and see if WOT trips the FI warning (overboost), you'll know REAL FAST whether or not the problem is the solenoid.

    Those solenoids are...

    Re: 2008 F-15X No Start

I just did this, t'd fitted a gauge off the low-pressure port and watched the pressure for a couple days, I was told I'd need metric threads but the first (only) 1/8" mpt fitting I found worked, I...

    Re: Wastegate activation and WGS

Two FPT 1/8" barb fittings, a threaded coupling and some o rings that git the coupling did the trick, was seeing a consistent 6k rpm today for the first time.

    Cost me $8 in hardware.

    At first I...

    Re: Wastegate activation and WGS

Nobody around here has the part -- lame.

This is even more fun than chasing 71.37575mm oil filter wrenches.

Off to the local aquarium shop cos nobody, inlcuding Lowes as far as I can tell, has...

    Re: Wastegate activation and WGS

The outboard seadoo pic is funny!!

Ya, now that I know how quickly it will go into overboost, I'm re-thinking this. Maybe I'll just make the drive today and grab the solenoid, as opposed to...

At least I know the turbo works, the difference is night and day!!

Spent the last two days looking for...

    Re: Wastegate activation and WGS

Why would the valves float, if the springs are up for it and you're within spec for RPM?

Valve float is what happens when the springs aren't appropriate for the cams, and/or you're over-revving.

    Re: Wastegate activation and WGS

I tend to disagree with this.

It's about oil quality (synthetic) and pressure - the higher the revs, the higher the oil pressure -- some people think it's hard on motors to drive them around at...

    Re: Wastegate activation and WGS

Learned something kinda interesting, really once I thought about it, it made perfect sense.

In order to do something like this, you need more than a ball-valve -- which is what I saw a "pressure...

    Wastegate activation and WGS

So, since sorting out my oil pressure (electrical) issues, I've found that the ski tops out at about 5500 rpm, 55-57ish mph indicated. Yesterday I read NS's recommendation for a quick WGS check, and...

Re: Oil, 4 quarts in 5 out

    Is it a turbo?

Boosted motors tend to blow gas past rings and into the oil, so the oil level can rise over time..
  24. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

I can't be sure at this point, but there are a few things I'm watching closely, and more than anything I suspect the grounds from the ECU; but they're not super easy to get to. Other suspects include...
  25. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

  26. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

So I managed to chase away the gremlin today and burned half a tank at or near WOT most of the time --...

  29. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

  30. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

  31. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

Ok, T'd off a 100psi oil gauge and put it on a hose. From when it pops to maybe 5 minutes idling, it reads 80psi. I noticed after about 5 minutes it had dropped down to about 65 at idle, but at 3k...
  32. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

  35. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

Yup, 1/8" pipe seems to fit fine, not sure the pitch of these fittings but so far it all seems to work with the LP switch. I copped a 100psi oil gauge, a brass T and all but one reduction fitting,

  37. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

I haven't run it on a hose yet, I can't get it into my garage so far due to a very steep driveway -- working on that.

That's some great information up there. I'll be calling about those part...
  38. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

  39. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

I pulled out twice as much oil today as I did the first time I drained it. I'm really starting to think this thing hasn't had much maintenance, or the guy who did...
  40. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

  41. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

Looks like you're right -- higher pressures with higher viscosity.

    Guess I'll try M1 15-50 unless anyone thinks that's a bad idea?
  42. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

Ok, so you think maybe a 50 weight might be worth trying? Like M1 15-50?

I'm no expert in fluid dynamics, but it seems to me a thicker oil would provide more resistance against the pump, and...
  43. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

I wonder if trying it with some 10-30 might help it? A little thinner, right? I thought I read somewhere 10-30 was recommended, but I do see it says 10-40 up there.

    Maybe worth a try?

    I...
  44. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

  45. Re: r12x oil sensor locations? (new ski problem)

I haven't tried this, I'm not sure where to find a mechanical gauge yet, I have some places in mind to ask about this - definitely working on this part; but if the low pressure switch was tripping,...
