    Removing old Hydro Turf Adhesive?

Anyone have any good solutions for removing the old adhesive from Hydro Turf? I thought Acetone would be sure fire.....not working all that hot! Next thought Laquer thinner...but b4 I bought it I thought I'd ask.

You need to buy a case or two of beer and then prepare for a long day of turf removal/installation.

I have used goof off before and it worked fairly well. But the two most important things to have are beer and elbow grease.

I used some stuff called Interlux Fiberglass Solvent Wash which took it off very easily. Unfortunately I was already half way done when I tried it so I still wasted a lot of time sanding it off. Only problem is it is about 20 bucks and you have to order it online.

Good old (cheap and easy to find) brake cleaner...Just be careful not to get it on anything but the area you want removed.

Have a wad of paper towels on stand by for quick wipe up. It turns the glue to a snot-like consistency for about 15 seconds and is super easy to remove. Toss your paper towels and move to the next section (I do about a 6"x6" section at a time)

That is good advice Lisa but do be careful not to get it on any surface that you will not cover with turf.

I just gave my 6 year old son the dewalt sander with some 80 grit sandpaper and let him go to town. Of course I was going to re-paint the ski afterwards anyways.

Lisa's idea is about the best, cheapest and most affective. But like she said, do it carefully because it will take off something that you don't want removed if your not careful.

Unfortunately, I've gotten pretty decent at turfing over the years...due to a LOT of practice. My buddy Steve, who got me into this sport, told me he didn't know how to do it last time we were replacing the mats on his runabout. I thought he was just trying to scam me into doing it for him (again)...then I realized he really didn't know as I've done them for 13+ years. He IS spoiled...and we're just buddies!

I use the putty knife...... and then a wirebrush wheel on a power drill..... get's the old turf off pretty fast.

Sorry to jump in with maybe a really obvious and stupid question, but can I use the brake cleaner to help get off the excess adhesive that ooooozed out when the Hyrdo Turf was applied ? You make such a point of mentioning not to get it on the wrong spot It made me worry...
The problem with normal is that it just keeps getting worse...

I would rather sit than quit...
