I have a 96 Raider 1100. I heard a funny noise and headed home. When I got to the dock, I realized ...No Blue Smoke and the noise was the oil pump. I check comp 110 on the back 2 and the front had 15. I broke her down and the back 2 look great, but the damage is ugly on the front. My questions are: 1. Would you put one new piston, ring all 3 and machine the cylinders or take the plunge. If you go to a larger piston, could I keep my CAM. The engine has around 60 hours and I would like to stay out of the bottom of it. 2. What can I do to go pre-mix? Do the carbs need any thing done?? She is a little ugly but really FAST and I wouldn't mind going a little faster.

"one new piston, ring all 3 and machine the cylinders "
if you machine the cylinders you will have to get three new pistons not one. most likely the crank will have damage also.
tear it down and look at the crank real good , if damaged get a sbt engine , rebuild the carbs and premix.
if the cranks good you can bore the cylinders and buy 3 pistons and rebuild the carbs.
but for the cost I would put a sbt engine in it and ride.

Re: 1100 WaveRaider 96 new rings and 1 piston
beats me, but I just rebuilt my motor and after cranking, there was a small piece of ring left in crankcase that sucked up and scratched one piston. I am only replacing the one piston and no rings. Rings look good and it doesn't appear that they were harmed. Of course, I might regret it later, but not now.
What can I do to go pre-mix? Do the carbs need any thing done??
Unhook the oil pump and install oil block-off. Mix 50:1 and go ride.

Re: 1100 WaveRaider 96 new rings and 1 piston
The engine was running and the crank looks good. I may need to define "ugly" the 1st piston's rings flattened out on one side and slightly scored the cylinder wall and the side of the piston. I was hoping to replace the one piston and go with .50 on the rings? But I guess, I should replace all 3 pistons..so they are identical and oversize to get a closer match to the cylinders?

Yet another example of why I would never trust an oil pump on a ski this old. I have the very same ski, and the first thing I did was switch to pre-mix. Very, very cheap insurance.96 Wave Blaster
