Pensacola charging $5 to launch?

I heard that the city is charging $5 to use their ramps. Anyone know if this is true?

Re: Pensacola charging $5 to launch?

Man I hope not. That sucks. I mean 5 bucks isn't much but I don't carry cash with me usually. I do know that the 3 mile bridge ramp over in Gulf Breeze charges 10 bucks! You have the option to buy an annual pass for around 40 I think.

I'm over in Mobile, but there are alot better places to ride over in FL. I have launched in Bayou Texar a time or two. There's a nice wide launch with plenty of parking at the end of Mallory St. It's a short ride out to the bay.

The launch in Perdido Key is in a good location, but it can get crowded and parking is more limited. There's also a huge no wake zone if you're headed out to the little island off Ft. McRae.

I've also launched at Navy Point but parking REALLY sucks there. I know Navarre Beach has a fantastic boat ramp with a good area to ride out in the sound but it's a bit far to drive. It's worth it though. I avoid Gulf Shores at all costs now. It's way too crowded arround Cotton Bayou and the pass.

Re: Pensacola charging $5 to launch?

I'm from Kansas City and have never been to Florida. I'm going to Pensacola Beach in April and thought about bringing both my skis.

Is there anywhere close to the hotels you can launch? I'm staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Ft. Pickens Rd.

Appreciate any guidance.

I'm not that familiar with that area but try Mapquest Maps and and get the Sat picture for that area (google is old and sucks) and look for one. Sounds like your staying close to ALabama.

Re: Pensacola charging $5 to launch?

Yes, I could see some stuff but it's hard to tell distance and if it's a good place to launch or not. I don't necessarily have to stay where I'm staying, so if you know of a better place, I'm up for that too. Like a say, never been so I don't really know what I need to see and places to eat and what not.

Just getting the wife away for spring break for a few days.

Re: Pensacola charging $5 to launch?

holidy inn on pcola beach is very nice, there is a boat launch on the sound side to launch at but to get to the gulf you will have to beach cart it. you can stay in orange beach ,al and have access to the surf and intercoastal via the pass. or destin as well. aj's in destin will launch and store your skis for you for about 25$ a day i believe.

if you check the dates of my signature we ware having a free ride on the last weekend of april in navarre beach, which is about 10 miles from pensacola beach ( same island )

Re: Pensacola charging $5 to launch?

Unfortunately I won't be there during those dates.

If I launch on the sound side, can I ride around toward the west to get into the gulf? It looks like I can on the satellite pic, but I can't tell what distance that is.
