Where at Lake Mead

Whats up my fellow Nevadans? Im new to the whole stand-up deal, just picked 2 up a few weeks ago. Sad to say, but yes, I've been riding couches my whole life. Decided to switch over. Anyways, I know we still got a few months before it gets warm enough to go ride, but where exactly are the good places to go ride out at Mead? I've been reading some threads, and it sounds like a decent sized group meets up every now and then in certian spots. Just trying to get an idea of where the hot spots are. Also, anyone have a guesstimate on how far you can go on a tank of gas on say a 89 550 and a 90 650?

Re: Where at Lake Mead

Meet us at govenment wash, there are freeriders, buoy chasres and cruisers there pretty much every sunday afternoon. Come get your exercise on the buoys you will get hooked quick. As the weather heats up so does "wet wednesday" the rides become epic in the summer.

Back in the day when the lake was full, on my piped single carb 650 X2 I could go to the dam and back plus some on a tank of gas.

Re: Where at Lake Mead

I've gone from Boulder Beach to the dam and back on my '90 550 with less than a 1/2 tank (first time I ever rode it, not my brightest move). It will ride 2-3 hours recreationally. It's stock besides the pipe and high compression head.

My '90 650sx will run about 26 miles at 3/4-WOT (Willow beach to a few miles south of Nelson). This ski had a SBN 44 carb and dried stock pipe.

See you at the G-spot when it warms up.

Re: Where at Lake Mead

Staying near where you ride has more to do with how much you trust your ski not to break down. Most can't ride a full tank on a standup without burning out first.

Re: Where at Lake Mead

Come out to G wash, the riders are great people and there is a variety of different skis and styles - 550's, 650's, 750's sxr's, sjs, fx-1's, blasters, x2's, etc.

We don't judge on how or what you ride.

Also some riders will ride from our launch spot to boulder and back. I could do it on my modded 550 with a full tank as long as I don't ride wot most of the way.

Re: Where at Lake Mead

mateo, i thought the kiwi's 1100 mod 750's were the fastest standup's on lake mead ???
it's not how fast they are, it's how good you get it wet + ride it.

Re: Where at Lake Mead

if its based on getting it wet then ya we're out but if its based on speed sorry the sxi1100 fell well short of beating the hydro on the track and in a drag race. But a top secret build should be setting new records for the lake and its not a 4stroke but it may have the look of a 4stroke
