Does anyone know.....

if is there any laws/regulations about flying a small rc helicopter at the Lake? Basically I have seen some cool videos (RC, MX, FMX, Skating) where video was shot from these crazy little cameras on rc helicopters. Was thinking that it would make for some cool shots from the lake of some buoy riding and free riding. The cameras actually aren't too expensive and for just over $100 I could get a ready to fly copter. The link below will give you an idea or you can search fpv on youtube.

Re: Does anyone know.....

You won't get a heli that can lift anything for 100 bucks. The heli they had in the video is about ten times that much to get in the air. Plus if you're not an experienced R/C helicopter pilot, expect to take months of constant practice to get the skill required just to fly a basic filming run.

No real laws about it, as long as you don't endanger anyone. It would be really cool to make it work, but you're better off finding someone who already knows what they're doing with the heli. It can be as expensive and time consuming of a hobby as ours is.

Re: Does anyone know.....

I flew helis a little when I was younger, shouldn't take me long to get the basics back again.

And that wasn't a new copter, sorry should have clarified it, I have a couple friends heavy into RC and a few of them have some nice copters they would unload to me for next to nothing. The one I was offered was something like $600 a couple years ago without remotes, guy just has too much stuff, I grew up with him, and I bailed him out of trouble a lot when we were teenagers. He was just saying if I wanted one he would give me one with a remote for around that price, I would have to drive about 4 hours to get it, but would probably be worth it.

I know when I lived elsewhere they had rules on where you could fly anything RC.

Oh and the price of RC stuff, I know that one. I have a buddy heavily into it and he probably has more into RC than he does in his skis and bikes. Plus I still occasionaly do some RC offroad racing at the local indoor track.

Re: Does anyone know.....

Blue got a toy copter for xmas. That is a cool idea. He would have to learn how to use it and then stick the GoPro on it. I need to make it sink proof though in case it goes down..

Re: Does anyone know.....

GoPro is way to heavy for most of them I think. Check these out....I had some better sites with some really cool tiny ones, just don't know where.

As for sinking, just hook some small foam to keep it floating maybe.

Re: Does anyone know.....

thats SICK!!! do it Joe.

A couple years ago there was a guy flying his RC planes down at saddle cove when we got there. He outfitted his planes with pontoons so they could land and take off from the water like sea planes. Seemed legal back then.
