Fx sho

Does anybody else have a FX SHO and ride it in the bay? How do you like it? What speeds are you seeing on average?

Re: Fx sho

No SHO here but an '08 FX HO,we (3 wife, brat and me) ride upper bay/susquehana river area, nice and calm max 59-60, average 30's, choppy just on plane give or take your pain tolerance. We've been out in some serious chop.

Re: Fx sho

I blew across the bay on my FX SHO in 2 foot waves trying to maintain 50mph. I had trouble walking for a few days! It was the best full-body workout I'd ever had (even if it was the most expensive).

The FX hull is probably the most stable one on the water. It has about two inches of flat hull at the stern on each side. You can stand on the side rail and not flip the ski. We've been in some nasty waves in the ocean and it hasn't tried to flip us. The bad side is it will slip around corners because it can't dig in.

It tops out at 66.5 on the GPS where it is at the limiter. It cavitates more than I would like. It has a number of aftermarket options. I think people are into the 80's with it (or is that just the FZ hull?).

The ski is very tough. Mine has been half full of water twice (once due to drain plugs being left out and once because it was pinned to a storage ramp that was suppose to rise with the tide). The second time, it ran rough for a while but then cleared out and never seemed to notice. It failed me once with a blown main fuse - not sure why that happened. Otherwise, it's been gas-n-ride.

The new FX HO uses the same 1.8 liter engine without the supercharger but with more compression. It losses a little top-end and hole shot but picks up some mileage. The SHO gets about 4.5 mpg between 25 and 55. It drops to about 3 over 60. I've seen tests of the HO at around 6 mpg. Unless you really need 0-30 times .5 seconds faster and top end speeds of 66 instead of 64, the HO would be the way to go.

Re: Fx sho

Also per the "enlightenment" on another thread, make mine an FX (not HO)
