| Ft lauderdale Pro-Am Watercraft Challenge 8/16/08 anyone interested in riding? Ok in case any of you here in South Florida didn't know there is pwc endurance race event here here in pompano/ ft lauderdale August 16th. There will be pros and amatuers/novice from around the country. Check out the site below. Even if you are a beginner you can race with a stand-up or waverunner! http://www.watercraftchallenge.com/events.php
I just talked to the dude tonight and anyone can enter for cash prizes and an all around good time with barbeque after ect at a tiki bar on beach. It is the first one of its kind to hit S. Fla in years. I want to enter my 650 yamaha vxr into this event. It is a 40 mile endurance course on the ocean starting in pompano going to sheraton yankee clipper in ft lauderdale and back (2 laps total) I think you have to be 16 years old + but check the site
If anyone is interested in entering hit me on on pm. I just dont want to enter and race against 1000 cc with a 650 cc. Most of us on this pwc site have 1-2 skis and I see a lot of them are 97 and under. Let me know please! It's not til august 16th and plenty of time to register & practice ect. There will be tv ads soon promoting it and sponsors there. May be your shot to make it big so hit me up as I dont check this every day. You can probably get some company to sponsor you the $130 entrance fee and put their logo or advertising label on your ski if you dont have the dough. Kinda like selling boyscout cookies to neighbors I guess Peace out

| Re: Ft lauderdale Pro-Am Watercraft Challenge 8/16/08 anyone interested in riding? Hi MBella,
And thanks for the reminder to the forum members. Brian Broman, the promoter and I are working together on this event (I'm the water safety coordinator) and am really happy to hear there are some local riders interested in competing. I thinkyou'll have a ton of fun, and as with any endurance race, it's not the mods or top speed of your craft, but if you and your craft can make the distance.
You *do* need to be 16 - See you all in August,
Lisa Price

| Re: Ft lauderdale Pro-Am Watercraft Challenge 8/16/08 anyone interested in riding? There use to be an endurance race at the very same place in Pompano Beach about 8 or 9 years ago. It was an endurance race around a one mile buoy course in front of that same hotel and one year it was really rough.
This new watercraft challenge sounds like it could be fun, but.... to go in a straight line for 10 miles then do a 180 and go another straight 10 miles!
The world's longest drag race?.

| Re: Ft lauderdale Pro-Am Watercraft Challenge 8/16/08 anyone interested in riding? Well, if you've never run an endurance race, then you just wouldn't understand. I've giggled for years when my closed course friends bagged on endurance racing...
Many said of the Hahn 300 "Why would I want to go fast and turn left in a 10 mile circle for 300 miles?
Then they tried it; they discovered they needed a highly dependable watercraft which would last the distance, the ability to estimate fuel consumption and adjust the throttle accordingly (or suffer the consequences)...oh, and if it gets rough, an endurane race can and will kick their arses. They als discovered the race was a ton of fun with great people....oh, nd this thing called a very nice cash payout - something closed course racing hasn't seen across all classes in quite some time.
Maybe before you comment you should come on out and give it a try? C'mon, I double dog dare ya

| Re: Ft lauderdale Pro-Am Watercraft Challenge 8/16/08 anyone interested in riding? OK, but I know these waters very well here. The overall win will go to the heaviest couch rider who' s index finger is taped down onto the throttle and handlebar............(Kawi ultra 250 maybe?).
Just think it would be more of a challenge to make a few turns........ right and left.
I was at the Mark Hahn 300 last year, although I did not race, THAT was a REAL challenge!
The conditions in the ocean between Pompano and FLL can vary daily between real smooth and 6+ foot swells, but usually the water temp is always high 70's to low 80's in august and the wind will probably be no different than usual (15+ mph out of the SE).

| Re: Ft lauderdale Pro-Am Watercraft Challenge 8/16/08 anyone interested in riding? Question:
If you have to launch at Alsdorf Park on NE 14th, idle almost 2 miles to the site, then race 20/40 miles (depending on class) at pretty much WOT, then idle back to the ramp, any ideas on refueling?

| Re: Ft lauderdale Pro-Am Watercraft Challenge 8/16/08 anyone interested in riding? I asked the coordinator the same thing. He siad they may let you refuel but did not go into detail how or where. I actually rode near half the course on june 5th. There were 6 foot swells that day and surfers all over. It's rough to ride even in a straight line. After riding all afternoon there for about 3.5 hours when I came back to 14th street I had about 1/8th a tank left. I cant tell if I rode 25 miles all afternoon or more that day but If I ran out of gas during a race I would be upset
I wish someone would give more details as to refueling. I have a 94 vxr and it holds about 5 gallons. I cant see it doing 40 miles on 5 gallons the way I ride Maybe someone can Pm me and let me know the details as I have 4 people interested if they can get all the sepecifics

I just started training for the race and am really looking forward to it. |

| Re: Ft lauderdale Pro-Am Watercraft Challenge 8/16/08 anyone interested in riding? Stay tuned....Brian Broman (the event promoter) called me yesterday to discuss the event, and water safety management. I suggested he start his press releases asap so folks can plan accordingly. There should be all the basic info you need in the first one which will be posted by the end of this week.
This event is shaping up nicely, and I think you folks will be blown away with the international interest it's generated and major corporate sponsorship which is now involved.
Stay tuned....
