951 install in 96 Seadoo XP

ok here's the deal.. i dumped a 951 in a 96XP Im running 787 electronics with an MSD enhancer set up correctly. I have 99+ flywheel and the 98mag cup( two raised pickups). My question is at TDC for the rear piston where does the pic up need to be? Does the raised pick up on the mag cup need to be under the needle(not sure what to call it) at TDC? ive been told
1.put the raisedend just to the left of the hole in the flywheel
2. move one more hole to the left.
neither of these settigs are under the needle just further away, I think that my timing is off about 180*. I still cant get it to fire. it kicks when i crank it but no fire. I have great spark and I am getting fuel judging by thecloudofblue smoke in the garage. I need some insight please!

any takers on this?

Re: 951 install in 96 Seadoo XP

Hi Nick:

What Timing Curve Are You Trying To Achieve ? I Would Expect 25-28deg Depending On Your Head Cut and Squish Velocity ... Check With Your Engine Builder To Be Sure.

Next Put A Dial Indicator In One Of Your Plug Hole ... Roll The Crank Over Until You Get To The Timing You Want and Then The Trigger and Sensor Should Be Aligned ...

Next Hook Up A Timing Light and Confirm At Low RPM ... The Timing Curve Will Change At Some RPM.

If You Know The The Initial Timing E-Mail Me Your Crank Stroke and Rod Length & I Can Tell You What You Should Look For On Your Dial Indicator.

Hope This Helps.

PS - Most Likely Your Ignition Is Wasted Spark ... Therefore If You Are Off 180deg You Are Right On.

Are You Running A Coffman XPL Pipe ?

Thanks.

Dave
