Cape Cod to Nantucket ride? summer 2010?

I just moved back the east coast and am interested in getting a posse together and riding to nantucket from cape cod. The marina near me that has day passes for $8-10 is saquatucket harbor. and is a straight shot to nantucket. I can do this alone, but it's much more fun to get a gang together. Who is up for some mayhem? Look at this nice waterfront asking to be violated

I would be open to this, what marina would we launch from? I assume we can refuel at Natucket somewhere?

Re: Cape Cod to Nantucket ride? summer 2010?

Depending on what kind of ski you ride, refueling may be an option or mandatory.
nantucket is 30 miles offshore from the marina I am suggesting, My ski gets about 110 miles to a tank, so using the 1/3 rule I've still got 50 miles left when we get back.

I'm also open to using a different marina, but the one in harwichport is the most direct one, has a fuel dock, restaurants etc.

Re: Cape Cod to Nantucket ride? summer 2010?

I got an 06 Kawi 15f, never ridden for a long straight run like this, mainly rip up and down the river back home and usually get about 65 miles on it before gas light comes on. but thats alot of full throttle type stuff, not sure what it would get on a cruise type of ride.

Re: Cape Cod to Nantucket ride? summer 2010?

I think the kawi has a 15 gallon tank, and probably gets at least 6 mpg on a 45-50mph cruise at least.
I know the guys I used to ride with would go 60 miles WOT to catalina and back and basically be on the fuel warning.
You should be good on one tank for sure.

Actually here is a thread I copied for MPG info, interesting because it includes both our skis
My fuel warning comes on with 3.5 gallons left so I can get about 80 miles WOT, before I get worried, and then a range of 20 miles from fuel buzzer.

Kawi STX-15F
3.7gph @ 35mph = 9.46mpg / 10.5gph @ 63mph = 6.00mpg
So thats 141 miles at 35 mph on 15 gallons
and 90 miles at WOT 63 mph

Yamaha FX HO
4.5gph @ 35mph = 7.78mpg / 10.8gph @ 58mph = 5.37mpg
143 miles range at 35mph
99 miles at WOT 58 mph (fuel warning probably at 20 miles left)
