Question Seacliff, Ventura

Hi everyone,

Old school dude here. Back in the day I used to ride in Ventura off of Seacliff Ave.. There used to be a pier there, that has since been taken out. The surfers rode the left side and the jet skiers rode the right side of the pier. It was an unwritten rule that we all followed and the CG didn't bother us out there. In fact you never even saw them around.

Great place to wave jump and beach. We hand dolleyed or towed the skis down to the beach with a ATV. Seacliff was the exit, you went under the bridge and parked on the side of the road.

Can you still ride here? Legally?

Anyone else ride there back in the day?? I used to ride my 550 and my Blaster there. If I knew it was still legal, and people rode there, I might be inclined to get another B1 and get back out.

Sounds like fun, I'd do it. I've been tooling around in pierpont bay lately.

Oil Piers!!!! 2 piers actually. Jet Skis to the North of the North pier. What an awesome break created by that sand bar that is no more. I have been riding and surfing there since approx 83 (mostly surfing) You can still ride there and many, as well as I still. Although it has been some time since my last visit. There is no more beach access path and its a PITA to get the skis down over the rocks, however there is some inner circle talk of fixing that soon. If you are a facebokk user check out this link, it was set up by my buddy Steve.

Re: Seacliff, Ventura

Thanks for the info. We rode there every weekend that we didn't race. GREAT spot!

I remember my buddy stalling his 550 in a wave and then watching it get barrel-rolled by the surf up onto the beach. he thought it was done, but we had it running after about 45 minutes and a can of WD40.

Anyone know Danny and Jim Lupold? Rode around with them there a bunch too. Danny and I rode Expert Sport on Blasters. Man, that was a long time ago.

Re: Seacliff, Ventura

We are pretty close in age, so I am sure we know several of the same old guys that used to ride. Prior to Seacliff and the Sport days I rode Castaic almost every evening with Dan Fitzgerald, Clay Cullen, Ryan Fitzpatrick and several others. We got to the lake in the summer around 6:00 and rode till they closed at 8:00. The Lifeguards knew us well and let us set up a buoy course since most people were already off the lake by then. Back then you could ride the lower lake as well. I was young and got out of work at 3:00. Jammed home and loaded up and headed to the lake. It was some fun times.

Re: Seacliff, Ventura

Oil Piers>>>So the summer swells have pushed in approx 15' of sand. I was last there about 3 months ago and there was a 20'+ drop off from the drainage tube, and about 15' drop from the end of the trail. By filling the small holes at the bottom of the trail with a shovel, and breaking up a small sandstone rock it would provide a flat smooth trail all the way down to the beach. Carting all the way down will be simple for a single person, may need a little help possibly going back up. Needless to say, I will be spending quite a bit of time here instead of launching via VTA Harbor as long as the sand does not get washed out. See you there!
