Nevada Group comes to So Cal

Hey So. Cal.
we are coming out from Vegas and want to ride surf/waves with our standups. Was wondering if you could give us some pointers. We are TOTAL newbs to ocean riding, but have always wanted to try this. We want to know how to prep the skis.
I assume hood straps are mandatory equipment, as well as bilge pumps, what about a pole strap?
Is there something we can do as far as our air filters to keep from getting water logged so our engines will not be drowning out? (We are anticipating alot of wipeouts...lol) Should we be spraying the inside of our engines down with anything?
Anything else?
Are there any laws we should be aware of that pertain to riding in the ocean? (Other then finding legal spots to ride)
It sounds like we are going to a place in Long Beach where we are able to pay to launch with our trailers. ANyone have any insight on this?
Anyone recomend a hotel not too far away, where our stuff would be secure?

Ummm...anything else you can think of that some Surf Squids should know about?

Re: Nevada Group comes to So Cal

hood straps yes, bilge yes, pole strap YES. i just wd 40 everything before and after riding. airfilters should be fine. just make your intake tubes (on hood) longer. minimal water consumption. i ride in oceanside. we launch from the oceanside harbor, ride north about2 miles or so, and its all government property. as long as you dont beach your ski, its pretty chill. on a good weekend you can catch a few pro riders out there getting some practice in. the earlier the better. launch at like 630ish water is perfect. youtube o side crew, you will see what i'm talkin about. i dont know of any places in long beach to ride the surf. oceanside is the place to go for some good surf riding. either that or pismo, but that is pretty far and you need a beach cart to launch. the launch ramp is free at oceanside harbor, and its only like 5 bucks to park. let us know when you plan on comming out and we will make a weekend of riding.

Re: Nevada Group comes to So Cal

Make sure your ski's are reliable, that is the biggest thing. Make sure some one has a tow strap, Dont ride alone, but that shouldnt be an issue if its a group of you. I agree with Jeff, O-side or Pismo. Pismo you guys could camp and ride all weekend. There are alot of hotels in Oceanside with in a minute or 2 of the Oceanside Harbor. Also since its your first time in the salt make sure you have a away to flush your ski's. O-side has a flush area right there at the ramp which is really nice to rinse and flush all the salt away before it dries up, Its free to use but you have to bring your own hose. Let us know if your going to ride O-side were always looking for a reason to ride! I have everything Jeff mentioned above on my ski, except hood straps but I dont have the balls yet to try rolls or flips. However hoodstraps are next on my list. Also I use Boeshield T9 on my engine and ski, and I have zero corrosion from the salt. I would spray on a couple coats before you come out, it leaves a thin film on whatever you spray it on and wont dry out rubber hoses and what not.

Sorry never been to long beach, but some others may chime in, all I know is its supposed to be a pretty long ride to the ocean from where you launch.
