La Jolla?

Just wondering if anyone rides around La Jolla regularly? I just got a new (used) ski and was planning on making this my regular riding spot since its where I live- Plan on using the kayak launch next to the La Jolla Shores hotel.

Re: La Jolla?

Is it legal to launch a ski there? And do you mean surf riding or just cruizing around in the open ocean?

Re: La Jolla?

I think it is legal- there is a kayak and small craft launch area right next to the la jolla shores hotel that is sand. I plan on just cruising around out in the ocean, not staying around the beach area... I figure if I'm not bothering anyone, they'll leave me alone too (hopefully).

Re: La Jolla?

I believe CA law states that a motorized vehicle must remain 200 yrds from the shore. I don't see you having a problem motoing around in the open ocean, however you will have to cross the 200yrd limit when launching and returning from the kayak launch. It's a good chance that using that launch will give the "haters" a reason to report you. I would check on the legality of launching a motorized boat at that ramp first. You can always launch at Shelter Island or Mission Bay in San Diego. Both spots are proplably 15 minutes from La Jolla

Re: La Jolla?

It will be hard to launch, don't know what size ski you have, as you might have to go far in the water to get the ski off the trailer. Make sure you have 4-wheel drive, otherwise you will not get your car back out. I had to pull my ski out there once do to an emergency and it was a biatch. Secondly there is a 5mph speed limit inside the reserve, stay out of the large swim area going south from the caves, marked by buoys. It is a strictly enforced area and very scenic. Your better option is going out of Mission Bay or San Diego Bay.
