111 - Way to stir the pot... I like it !!!
This is the deal. My plan for an ongoing annual interstate north vs south shootout was to have it one year up here, and the next down south to make the travel issues equal for everyone. I tried to contact a few people located further south in the state than I am for some help in putting together a rockin event for both regions but I had no response to emails or phone calls. Cool, no hard feelings, I can do it myself if I have to.
An issue to consider is racer interest. If I held an enduro race in Alaska I have no doubt most every enduro racer in Socal would go. Thats just how they are. Regardless where the race is - these enduro guys are nuts for racing and they would show up,but with the closed course at the shootout, there was by far a much larger turnout from norcal than socal, and that was a big factor in determining where this 6 ft trophy would be perched for a year. Why the low socal turnout? Travel issues? The economy? Scheduling? Personal feelings about outlaw non apba races? It doesn't really matter what happened last year - that was then, this is now.
If the south is sincere in wanting to see a showdown with the north - we can make that happen. I've kicked around the Long Beach marine stadium, San Luis Reservoir, Lake Ming, Issabella, and I even looked into Firebird Raceway in Phoenix. I'd like to see a
2 day event that would include enduro, freestyle, and closed course racing, but again - this is based upon racer interest. This would be a DJSA sanctioned race and not one requiring any outside membership, If theres no interest from socal, the annual theme of this end of the season race will be changed to an ongoing norcal regional championship held in the northern part of the state..
Talk it up with your friends. If theres interest we'll make it happen down there but If not -it WILL BE happening up here. Hope you can make it one place or the other - it will definately be fun!
Stay safe ~
