Well Jim you missed out on the waves (july 4th). Lets just say the waves were huge. As in, I sunk my ski huge. Yep thats right, I sunk her about a 1/2 mile out. Went up a 8 footer (no joke, ask Eric how the waves were) since I was so high,I just thought I would say hi to my guardian angel. But coming down was when it happened. I was in a full vertical drop and was starting to go backwards when I hit the water. Went about three feet under when my seat came off from the impact. Well lets just say I came up and my ski didnt. There is a little Styrofoam in the front nose of me ski.(thank god I never took it out). She came nose up(about six inches)and thats all. I screamed to Eric to get my seat(thank god it floats). Eric rode to my seat and drove it to the beach. Now you have to picture this,me holding onto the rail of my ski (trying to keep it afloat) the waves in they ocean were cresting way over my head and pushing me under while they hit. Than while thats all going on that undertow was having fun with me as well. It took Eric about 15 minutes to reach me (seemed like eternity). We tied the front off. Since the nose was the only thing sticking up,I pushed my legs under the back near the nozzle to keep up the nose while Eric towed me in.We couldn't get her on the shore far enough to get water out of her.I got a guy in a jeep to tow her in about 15 yards on the beach. We tipped her to the side and puller the drain plugs.Eric drove his ski to the ramp and picked up my jeep with the double trailer.Well it took six guys to lift the ski on the bunks. We started to pull the double trailer and wound up stuck. Had to get a guy in a ram to pull us out.Got to the ramp to get Eric to his car.Puller the plugs and what a GUSHER came from my cylinders.Eric laughed his *** off. Never seen so much water. So I took her home, I fired the cylinders until no more water came out(1 hr.and how my gel battery took the cranks I'll never know). With 4 sets of plugs, two hrs later SHE FIRED. that right she started.Put the hose on her for 20 min. and took her to crescent lake for a 2 hr fresh water ride. She runs like a bull again.I'll never buy another ski thats not a YAMAHA.So thats what you missed old man...lol You need to come out with us next time Jim. Its always an adventure with us..lol

Re: Sinkable Yamaha?

Man Vince!!!

That ski took a good drowning. Its hard to believe its running again. I would run it some more and really dry it out good. I see some guys are strapping their seat on some how. The tow surfer skiis had they on.

I have my carb kits coming. I hope this fixes my problem with the Raider. I think I may order some outwears for my carbs after what happen to you.

I think my next 3-seater is going to be a Yamaha. If Yamaha gets the HP up over 200. I have to go at least 65-70 MPH, or forget it.

JIM

Re: Sinkable Yamaha?

Jim,
I'll be going out tomorrow to the river. Making sure im in fresh water for a couple more runs. She ran good yesterday, with no problems. Its like it never happened. weird, but very lucky.I'm going to look at strapping my seat like you stated. If your going to play hard, like I love to do always, you have to take things like this in stride. But DAMN you have to love those yamaha's.Let me know if you need any help on your raider.I tore my carbs apart last week.Did some adjustments. Seemed the third cylinder carb wasnt opening all the way ,thats why when I gave her full throttle she had nothing left but cable @ 72mph.Now she flys. fixed that rich problem as well. The plugs look leaner and not all oily.hoping to get her back up to 77mph with the new adjustments,we'll see.
Vince..
