Live In Tampa: Loking For AWESOME Areas Of St. Johns River

That are not over 2 hours away. We prefer to keep it 1 1/2 hours, on I 4 but if there are some spots that aren't just for speed, that's what we want. We like to see the sights, little inlets, restaurants, canals behind mansions, islands, etc. Can anyone help? What boat launch? If I have a street I can use navigation.
THANKS!!

Re: Live In Tampa: Loking For AWESOME Areas Of St. Johns River

i dont know about the time, 3 ramps i have used are teh following:

i-4 @ lake monroe - if you go north from there you can go do blue springs state park and have lunch there and see the manatee in teh spring. That is pretty cool.

SR44 - i dont know the name of the park, but there is a large ramp there. we generally go north from there.

Astor - HWY 40. There are 2 small ramps there, go north from there to Lake George....generally everyone goes into Silver Glenn from there., you can also get there from the SR44 ramp, but fuel usually becomes a close issue depending on how much gas your ski drinks.

That should get your started...

Anyone Live In Orlando? ST. Johns River Question

This way they may be able to tell me approx. how far a great area is from Disney area. As mentioned we like areas with alot to look at, no spped demons, just enjoy nice tropical areas and spots where you can take off if you care to. Also any particular boat ramp?
THANKS!

St rd 44 is the Ed Stone ramp, very nice but about 1.25 hrs north of disney. Ride North for about 26 miles & you will find Silver Glenn springs on the west side of Lk. George. Head south & you will find blue Springs park.

Re: Live In Tampa: Loking For AWESOME Areas Of St. Johns River

Wekiva river is about an hour north of Disney. Just get off at Sanford, put in on the St John's river (or Lake Monroe) and go west until Marker 96. Make a souther turn and you are on the Wekiva... go slow because of small flat bottom fishing boats, canoes, and kayakers... also plenty of alligators (who feed on the canoes and kayakers perhaps!)

It's a good ride through trees and such, you can go about 1.5 hours down the river before a long shallow spot stops you. Lots of offshots to look at as well.

Re: Live In Tampa: Loking For AWESOME Areas Of St. Johns River

I've been interested in riding near these springs for a long time. Could you please give some more info regarding how many slow speed areas, law enforcement attitude, and general ride recommendations.

Give me a PM if you'd like to set up a ride while we still have water in the creeks.

Technically, yes north. Marker 96 is 15 minutes in at cruising speed, give or take. It is on the left and is right inside where the St John's turns to the right.

When entering the Wekiva, it is no wake for the 1st mile or so, then you can go about 15 mph (seems faster since it is a small winding river) just watch out for flat bottom fishing boats and kayakers.
