My SXR 1100 Build

For some good reason I decided to turn my very reliable race ready limited into an 1100. I just started and here is what I've gotten done so far.

I'm going to use a stock 650 drive shaft and bolt the SXR bedplate to the 1100 motor. Without doing any modifications and using the existing bolt holes on the motor and bedplate this is how it layed into the hull and lined up to the coupler. The motor is a touch higher then the shaft but nothing that a shim in the front 2 motor mounts won't take care of.

I'm either going to loop the exhaust back up and over to use the stock waterbox or modify an old 750 waterbox and stuff into the back corner of the firewall like they did on the 750's.

Depending on what waterbox I decide to use will determine where I mount the E-box.

Suggestions are welcome

Enjoy

Re: My SXR 1100 Build

cool!!! I would try to move the motor back 2 more inches on you bedplate. I think u will be nose heavy with the waterbox up front and the motor location???

This looks like a clean and pretty easy build!! subscribed.

Joe,

Brad mentioned to me that actually milled 5mm off the bottom of the case to lower the motor in the hull. Just an fyi.

I'm with Scottie on this one, if the pics are accurate, no way are shims going to fix the misalignment pictured. Good luck!

Re: My SXR 1100 Build

The "misalignment" looks exaggerated in that pic because there is a 1100 coupler on the motor and a 650 coupler on the driveshaft. The couplers are different sizes. The motor sits higher by 1/8". I used a deck of cards and measured how much the bigger coupler is bigger on the top then how much the bigger coupler is bigger on the bottom and subtracted the difference.
If I was to use a couple thin shims like they use on the superjets it brings them even.

Scottie
The 4 holes I'm using are not as tall as the 4 holes that are usually used to mount the 1100 motor. Can you find out if they milled the original mounting holes down to make all of the holes even or if they milled 5 mil off the entire bottom case. Later I'll try to put up a pic to make it a little easier to understand. I don't know why these 4 holes I'm using are there, Maybe they use the same cases in the 900 and it's to mount that.

Re: My SXR 1100 Build

I don't know either. I do know you are running it the same way some of the guys in NC are running theres. They used a Kawi ss 750 runabout driveshaft and had to make a 1/4 inch spacer to keep the bearing area in the right place. I am like Mark, I would personally like to push my motor back about 3 inches or so, but it sure is nice how well everything lines up on the mounts using the 800 bedplate. It looks like there is enough room on the blocks to move the motor mounts back about an inch, but I wonder if they is worth the headache of having to drill and tap new holes and moving the elec. box. Going to be interesting for sure. I am going to pick up my motor this weekend, so I will have a better idea of what I want to do in a week or so.

Re: My SXR 1100 Build

jopi, I used the 650 drive shaft also but with the ZXI 1100 bed plate and it's a good fit. This will give you enough room to mount your 1100 E-box on the in the stock 800 location. You will have to push the top of the E-box mount back just about a 1/2 inch. Looking from the front of the ski to the back you will have the lower left bolt that will work for the 1100 E-box, the rest you will have to fabricate. I'm just doing the fab work on the exhaust pipe now. To get more flow from the water supply you can trim off the very tip of the bulb on the pipe inside the hull. Remove the fitting on the pump and drill it to 17/64 and/or add another supply while your at the pump.

Re: My SXR 1100 Build

I'm surprised nobody is busting the 750/800 sized couplers with these conversions.
My sxr superstocks broke billet 750/800 couplers. I started using the bigger diameter couplers and never had a problem.
