| My first build: 440/650 conversion Hey guys. I decided at the end of riding season i was sick of my 650 hull and wanted to put my motor in either a 440 or 550 hull. So i gutted my 650 and sold the hull. I was lucky enough to get a free hull 440 hull from someone i know!! Hull was in decent shape, a little body work was needed but nothing major. I started this project in November but lost interest as it started getting cold, but one nice day perked me up and i've been workin on it ever since lol. Anyways, i've been sanding and filling in dents and cracks with some Bondo body filler (seems to be working good). Want to paint it soon so trying to get a lot of body work done. I still need to get some of the old turf and glue off which is a pain in the a**, but 3M adhesive remover seems to work the best and makes it easy. I have all the electrical setup in a 550 ebox with the 650 regulator in it. Thanks to Laserman, i knew how to set it all up by following his build thread; it shows diagrams and pics so it easy to follow. Go there if you need to set up your ebox for conversion ( Just another 550sx -650 conversion). For the motor, all i have on it now is an sbn44, hoping to get a head and pipe soon when i get some extra cash. I'm going to be using a js550 driveline with a 17p jetlyne prop (hopefully i don't get any cavitation, we'll see). Thats about it for now, i will post more when i start to paint and start putting it together. IMG_5580.JPGIMG_5578.JPGIMG_5577.JPGIMG_5574.JPGIMG_5579.JPGIMG_5576.JPGIMG_5582.jpg |

| Re: My first build: 440/650 conversion Once the bondo that your using hits water it will swell up and fall off the ski. You need a marine grade body filler.

| Re: My first build: 440/650 conversion Also since you have it apart...... you should convert the ski to rear exhaust. Use 1 7/8" aluminum tubing to run throught the right side under the tray. Then seal up the stock exhaust exit port.

| Re: My first build: 440/650 conversion duraglass will work if your able to find it. I went to my local west marine and was unable to find it. I know that you just need a marine grade body filler. LOL, the only reason that I know this is because I bought bondo and other members on here told me about the swelling issue. I haven't filled my stock exhaust ports but I plan to use a few layers of fiberglass on the inside and probably one or two on the outside. Then I'll smooth it out with marine body filler.
As far as the rear exhaust conversion take a look at my 550/650 conversion build thread as well as rysta23 550/650 conversion build thread. They are both on the first page of this section.
You will need the loop hose that comes off of the 550sx waterbox and then the long rear exhaust hose that runs from the loop hose to the bulkhead. Rysta23 and I ran 1 7/8" pipe through the foam in the tray. We will then be running another section of 1 7/8" pipe from the bulkhead to the loop hose coming off of the water box. We will use rubber exhaust hose to couple the pipes near the bulkhead. You will probably need to find something like rysta23 did to hold the hose down in the engine bay.
Be sure to use 3m 5200 marine epoxy to seal around the aluminum pipe in the bulkhead and at the rear of the ski.
