Re: My 550/650 build

got the motor installed, and electronics changed over (thanks to Matt_E). turns over and has spark.

Waiting on my jets and primer kit then the build should be done. Might need to pull the engine to get the lower intake manifold nuts on but that shouldn't take to long. will post up pics tomorrow.

Re: My 550/650 build

pulled the engine to get the lower intake manifold nuts on and reinstalled the motor.

Started installing the exhaust, it is wedged between the bracket and the side of the hull so i can't install the last coupler (big one). How did you other 550/650 guys overcome this?

Re: My 550/650 build

I was guessing that was the answer. Thanks

Can i just cut the bracket off the exhaust or does it need support there? This is a stock 650 exhaust.

It is wise to have the exhaust bolted on there. I had mine bolted on the bracket but with no rubber dampner, not a good idea.

You MAY have to grind the bedplate too...

Re: My 550/650 build

Thanks jetskitokey,

The bracket on the pipe looks like it is made up of 2 pieces. can i cut one of them off and use the rubber dampener from the bolt between the bracket and exh mani? That seems like the easiest solution to me. What would i use to grind down the exh mani? Don't think my dremmel would work so well on the mani. i already got the exhaust fabbed up without the bracket and it wasn't hitting the bedplate so hopefully i won't need to grinde the bedplate also. Thanks again for the tips.

Re: My 550/650 build

The PJS pipe in my conversion fit so snugly that I didn't need the mounting bracket although cutting it down/back about 1/4 inch is enough to help make it useful. Next time I remove the motor I will be drilling and tapping my manifold to secure my pipe.
