js550 Winter build

I decided that i would strip one of my js hulls down to clean it up real good. It has some spots that need to be repaired correctly as i only temp. repaired them to be able to ride for the summer. I got this hull free with a purchase of another complete ski. It was painted like it is when i bought. The paint job looks ok but i has many marks and nicks that make it look bad. So i decided i would strip it down and paint it. Ill post up many pictures here. Im open to any ideas and tips! thanks guys!!!

Re: js550 Winter build

Today i took everything possible off of it(minus the turf). degreased the engine compartment. then let Mr clean soak in it for a couple hours. The compartment looks alright. I'm toying with the idea of painting the compartment. Not sure yet. You can see from the pictures there is alot of marks in the paint. I think im going to leave the turf on and paint around it. I know im probably going to regret it but its in pretty good shape and i really dont have the budget to get new turf for 2 skis.(i plan on getting a turf kit for my sx build 550 SX Winter build )

I would say this depends on your budget. New paint always looks awesome but that paint job is pretty sick. I think if you like it just fix it. If not...strip it and go nuts.

Re: js550 Winter build

im doing a new paint job on it. it looks good from far away but within 5 feet you can see how crappy it looks now.... just wondering if i should strip it down good or just rough up the old paint and paint over it?

Re: js550 Winter build

I would sand it down. Fill any obvious nicks. Your hull has alot of colors so will be difficult to spray over and have your new paint show its true colors. You will need to prime it before starting a new design. Once primed you will beable to see if you missed any imperfections.
