1st Timer project

I picked up in trade a couple of 550sx a while ago with paint that i didn't care for so decided to take a crack at repainting one of them. My idea is to paint it matte black with a Rasta handle pole, red, yellow and green. So far i have removed the engine, i want the compartment black as well and started sanding the cover and pole. I'll start on the hull in the next day or so. So far i'm enjoying this and hopefully it will turn out alright. Read the painting thread and trying to follow all of the steps so we'll see. I'll post additional pics as I progress and a final one when completed.

Good luck man. Like the idea of the black ski with the red, gold and green pole. My motorbike is gloss black with a red, gold and green tank, which is pretty funny. Although I would suggest you go gloss black, but use acrylic as opposed to base coat-clear coat.

Re: 1st Timer project

Getting a little further along with my Rasta ski. Sprayed the engine cover matte black and i'm not digging it. The paint looks uneven and not quite what i want so now i'll go the gloss route. Painted the pole with gloss and that came out just the way I wanted it, with a bit of overspray on each color. I din't want a defined hard line separating the colors. So far still fun but still have a bit to go.

Very nice lookin, you should take an airbrush to the side of the hood and write "Rastafarianism" on it lol

California registration through 2011 is a green sticker, I'm thinking of having the CF numbers in red and yellow and let the sticker serve as the green.

Re: 1st Timer project

Thanks!

I painted the bottom of the hull, I know it will end up scratched the hell up but the previous paint job was on the side below the seam and it looked funny. Oh, well it will look good for the photo shoot! Also threw in a little color on the ride plate, just the top side. I figured this wouldn't get wrecked as fast.

Re: 1st Timer project

Finally finished the painting! A few runs but expected for a first time project. Overall i'm happy with the look and color scheme, now time to put it all back together. I threw on the ride plate just to check it out and it's just enough color on the back. I have a Coffman's pipe that i'm going to polish up and then paint the top of the K&N arrestor in the same red yellow and green.

Re: 1st Timer project

Completed the exterior and will throw the engine in tomorrow, burned out today. Here are some before and after shots. Overall it was a fun project to do, but will definately take a break before starting on the next one. The ski turned out pretty good for being my first.
