Wet suits and water temp

Do any of you guys and gals ride in cold waters and if so what do you wear? I am curious as to what water temp is safe to start riding again.
I recall putting my full suit on in Jan. ( Calif. ) and surfing all morning but I am unsure about jet sking. I live on the east coast now on the Chesapeake.
The truth of the matter is I can not wait to ride this ski and want to know when I can and what to wear to be comfortable.
Cheers,
Rick

If you are riding a couch just dress warm. What are the chances of actually getting in the water?

Re: Wet suits and water temp

I have a 3/2 Rip Curl suit of which I wait to about to about 50 degrees water temperature. Since I'm further north than you (NJ), it's about mid April when I start going in. Check you local USGS for water conditions. I use this suit in case I do actually do fall in for protection from the cold water.

Re: Wet suits and water temp

My last ride last season was in 40 degree air temp, and yes I did get soaking wet. I has a Slippery Shogun wetsuit on. I did learn that I need to get warm boots.

Re: Wet suits and water temp

Thanks for the feedback guys, I also did some searching in other posts and found more info. I have an old 4mm Oneal full suit and some nice 3 mm booties. Sounds to me like I will be sking in April. or when the water gets up around 50 deg. although its going to be hard to keep looking at this new ski and not sneak out befor then....
The last thing I need to get figuired out is the gloves, any tips?

Thanks

Use a dry suit with lines ran off the pissers...one to your hands and one to your feet.... Nice and toasty

Re: Wet suits and water temp

Another thing about gloves, as long as they are full neoprene, donīt get thicker than 3mm. Any thicker and you will be facing forearm pump from trying to squeeze the throttle. I ride in WA all year. I just got a FXHO and have been out riding wearing thermals and rain gear. Kind of like skiing. Just making sure not to tip her over. A helmet, ski gloves, 5mm dive booties, and I am set!!
