Miami to Bimini group ride being formed. PWC's only

Initial planning of a Miami to Bimini trip. Leave on a calm morning in June or July, spend the night and return in the morning. Experienced riders and passengers only. Need chase boat. It's about 50 nautical miles, open ocean. Probably leave out of Haulover Inlet or Biscayne. I'm told passports are not needed to clear customs, just a valid DL and birth certificate. we'll spend the day shooting around the various Cays down there, snorkel, eat, party, sunset. We'll figure out lodging on a group basis and all the other things that will make it fun! Get off the Intercoastal, get to Bimini! Greg

If interested, email me at gregmichael@comcast.net - prior to going, we'll have a riders meet up to cover safety, trip plan, whose riding, supplies, GPS etc...

I'd love to do this but would my own chase boat.
The SuperJet would need to be refuelled out in open water.

Some day.

Does the time of the year affect water conditions down there? I might drive down sometime in Aug or so to do it, but I thought the later in the Summer it is, the worse the conditions are? Any input anybody?

Umm...Not so much, nobody can call the weather down here. I'm a life long sailor and read the clouds well but rely on NOAA with their satellites to help. Summer in S FL see's tons of rain as the clouds drop their water vapor over the land, the ocean is different. Far different, heck, 10 miles is different, we are in the tropics and generally, foul weather develops in the afternoon. We'd be slinging lobsters on the grill by then brother. Running 40 mph we'd be there in under 90 minutes (with good flat water) - Crap water and it's a no good, play by ear is unfortunately the way this will be called. Would I drive from LA? Hell no, too unpredictable. The Gulf stream flows 10-12 mph due north and you fight that monster almost the entire run. Even at the angle, 90 degree's to heading, it still saps forward movement and heck, none of us are going to beat the waves, we need calm rollers at worst. No worries...lemme know. Greg

Louisiana, not Los Angeles! Haha. It is only about 750 miles or so to Miami from here. I will by in the Keys in May, but I am flying down. I would plan a week to 10 days for that trip.
