Do I want a 4-stroke??? gti-4tec or vx110

Im considering selling my skis (96 gtx, 95sts, 93ss) and getting a 4-stroke. Why? Because were in the middle of a freakin recession and i think I can get a vx110 or a gti 4-tec for real cheap. Do I even want one?? I live in san diego and like to go out in the ocean and cruise.

Reliability is extremely important to me, obviously you dont want to get stuck in the ocean. Speed is not that important, cant really go fast in 2' chop.

I love cruising my gtx in the ocean but dont like riding it w/o partner ski in the ocean.

How important is the closed loop cooling for LONG term saltwater reliability?

The vx110 has everything in its favor, even looks imho, except for the closed loop cooling. Ive taken apart enough saltwater 2 strokes to see what salt buildup can do to cooling passages. How many hours, if maintained, could I expect out of the vx110 or the gti -4-tec?

Really???? A vx110 will go 900 hours? No rebuild, just regular maintenance and it will go 900 hours?
Thats pretty amazing if tis true, I guess the only person that would know that is a rental owner.

There was one that came out of a rental fleet down here in Miami last winter that had over 2,000 on it with nothing but maint.
Yamaha Corp. now owns it.

Re: Do I want a 4-stroke??? gti-4tec or vx110

Ya, Im not a fan of any 3 cyl 2-stroke yami's as far as reliability. Ive have bad personal experiences. The 2cyl's yamis are awesome imho. My kawi 750's are bulletproof, but I still dont trust them in the ocean alone.

Tweeker... you work on 4-stroke yamis alot??? Again, is the closed loop cooling just a marketing ploy or does it help long term saltwater reliability?
