Winter builds?

I'm getting the fever to start tearing down my ski and I thought I'd ask what the plans were for you guys.

Here are my plans so far:

New Paint
Returf
reinforce sides and under pole bracket area
install new umi pole bracket
inspect my pump-possibly get a new prop or wear ring (thanks paul)

Possibilities:
Maybe refoam?
Dual cooling? Not sure if I need it with just the b-pipe and the head
Maybe a new top end? I'm at 172/170 right now and I'm not sure how old the top end is.

Any input on helping me decide on my foam, cooling, and top end would be appreciated!

I'd like to hear your plans as well.

Re: Winter builds?

IMO you do not need dual cooling around here. ( water temps are just not that warm. ) especially if you are only doing a pipe & head.

sounds like a good project. let me know if i can help in any way.

Re: Winter builds?

Ya I agree, but I do ride down in Morris on the Illinois river and that water does get pretty warm. Other than that I'm never in water over about 72-ish. I'll keep you in mind.

Re: Winter builds?

Sounds like you have your plans, mine are to rebuild my wifes pump and clean up her ski, I'm also painting the pump area and then I want to proceed to put some hydro turf on both skiis. I Need to redo my numbers on both from there towards the spring time hopfully fix our trailer.

what else do you want to know.

foam? use the two part for sure.

top end? not sure what you need to know. rebuild or not? can't tell through a computor. sounds like you have good compression numbers. i would say inspect it and see.

a good prop is always a good idea.

sounds like you are on the right track.

again, heat makes HP. with mild bolt on mods, and our air, and water temps, i would stay with sigle cooling. you "could" go to a larger single cooling line. it would be different, if you lived / rode in the desert.

Re: Winter builds?

Hey Dave from riding your ski id say with the top end if it aint broke don't fix it. Your ski pulls hard try a prop from impros like john suggested alot of people have rave reviews about a "hooker" from them.

Ummm you could also go with a charging lightened flywheel, maybe some hi-po reeds, play around with a jetworks flow control to clear out the waterbox.

Why do you want to refoam?

I personally dont think you need dual cooling either, even when we ride in morris. Blaster has single cooling has been nothing but reliable for 6 seasons strong.

Re: Winter builds?

I don't have any other questions...I was wondering what the plans were for you guys.

Thanks for the extra assistance zig, but now I'm interested in what others are doing too.

I wanted to start this thread for the guys that we all ride with just to see what everyone's plans are. It's not just for me.

So let's hear it!

Re: Winter builds?

oh and as far as inspecting my top end....i looked at it about 2 months ago (maybe 5 rides ago) and the tops of the pistons did have some carbon on them. Just random almost flowered shaped in the middle. The cylinder walls looked fine (at least from what I could see with my untrained eye).

Re: Winter builds?

I wouldn't refoam unless your foam is waterlogged.

Reinforcement is a good idea if you're planning on smacking the ski around a little

Compression sounds good to me. I'd leave it alone or do as Zig said and inspect it.

I've thought about dual cooling myself but in these waters it sounds like it it unnecessary.

For my ski I am planning on doing a RN pole conversion (RN pole, bracket, possibly some reinforcement in bracket area)

I also think it's about darn time for some footholds. I have yet to decide for sure but if I get a bug up my *ss and strip the turf, IT'S ON!

I may go with a Wet Wolf cone this year too, although my ski hits pretty good on the bottom right now.

Other than that I've been really happy with my ski so I can't warrant doing much more than that
